This is my favorite article on MDL and it answers the question perfectly
    A look at Asian Dramas

The reason Asian dramas are so popular is ......
    that most fans are M...Masochists
Seriously though, it is a very well written article that draws attention to a lot of things
Personally, I dropped many dramas for the reasons listed.
It is also a funny article but quite serious too

If you read the article you would see that it mentions Japanese, Chinese and Taiwanese dramas

    Of course they are.

Note: This is not victim blaming but most of them are "love-martyr fetishists" who think they can change the Troubled but Cute Bad Boy. They deserve all the Domestic Abuse that comes their way from believing in things that do not exist.

Well... Because of the 'tragic' themes? Well looking back through history there's romeo and Juliet... Then if we look at the origin of fairy tales there are a bunch of tragic, sad moments i.e. Little mermaid(not disney). So the art of theatre somewhat evolved in these themes~ because people like it.
Also some people just like to watch people suffer.

In ASIA we dont need to think about how to gain viewers with BOOBS, BUTT, etc

If we need them, just go watching porn ~ lol

I guess it depends on what kind of dramas you watch. Some of my favorites are Long Vacation, Kekkon Dekinai Otoko, Trick etc. and the mentioned issues are not really present there. In all three cases the female leads are actually fairly assertive and take no shit from men.

But I guess I some of that rings true even in the stuff that I've watched. The wrist-grab is especially common I think, even in sort of romantic comedy type of drama like Proposal Daisakusen. Can't remember any specific scenes, but I bet there are few where the female lead is being dragged around by the hand. I never really thought about it much, because there is never really any malicious intent behind that act - its usually done when the female lead is acting really stubbornly, about to storm off due to a misunderstanding or etc. If you let a woman storm off in real life they'll just get more pissed at you for letting them leave/not going after them, so those scenes never felt like "abuse" despite the physicality of it.

This is what happens when people take fiction too seriously. So, what does the feminists want? :blobfearful: Censor anything that is even remotely considered misogynist? :blobexpressionless: If anything, they should ban Fifty Shades of Grey first. :blobpensive: This is just a slippery slope toward a future of sterile entertainment. :notlikeblob: Fortunately, I'd be long dead before feminists ruin the world. :blobsmirk:

    Naaahhh.......
You just don't like the pizza with pineapples...
Next time find a pizza with cheese or anchovies or other toppings that you like......
I mean, I don't force myself eating pizza with sauerkraut or durian sauce...

The pizza is just not tailored to your taste, find other pizza parlor.

in my country, drama series are always Cinderella stereotypes, poor/ugly girl abused by female antagonist + suddenly become beauty and rich+ prince charming. or if not just plain adultery story. and all of those series always ended up in a gun fight with female antagonist always die by gunshot. always the same ending. like they don't know how to write other ending than those.
no wonder Korean drama are popular in my country
