Okay, so, I wanna know one thing important. I wanna hear from you guys, what do you think is a recommended word count per chapter? Should a chapter be short or long-ish? I'm not sure how to do it, because, if I write it short, I feel like there'd be too many unnecessary cliffs or just being a pointless chapter. But if I make it too long, it might get boring for the reader. Yes, I'm also keeping in mind the story progression and the quality of the story. So, I'm leaving a poll (just adding random numbers, do correct me), also do comment and give me advice if you have any. *Note: Prologue is 1350 words, is that good? Bad? WHAT!?
If the novel is good, i would want the chapters to be as long as possible.. ^^ ... Imagine ISSTH with double-lenght chapters
For prolouges it depends on how much backstory and how your setting up your main plot, but i would say it is an okay length for a prolouge because some are necessary to be long while others it could be as low as 100 words it really does depend.
It really depends on whats happen in the chapter, I've read chapters that were 2 pages long all the way up 40 pages.
Obv I'm gna vote for long chapters cos when you like it you wanna read more. Having said that it doesn't really matter as long as it's a good read. If too long and boring I skip a lot. Write what feels right
yup, it doesn't really matter how long it is, as long as it's a good chapter. of course, don't make it ridiculously short or long either. just make it match the chapter title. for example, if your chapter is called escape, well, don't continue writing untill he's married or something =p start a new chapter once he's safe ^^
If you keep it readable, easy to understand, and not too repetitive then i think around 1500~ should be good. But thats as someone who is writing. If it was from a reader's point of view, I would prefer the chapter longer, as long as it doesnt seem like you are trying to lengthen the chapters on purpose just for the word count
NEVER. I lose my mind whenever I see a novel that keeps repeating the same damn sentence over and over, but uses a slight change of few words, and so on for the entire chapter (looking at LLS, that author is giving me cancer). The entire plan is to cut down on "reactions" or repetition, I can't implement something I hate myself <.<
It take me less than 1 hour to read 2000 words even though I know it can take you or any writer a day just to write that. I may be a selfish book fiend, but at least I am honest ^_^;;
when in the zone, it takes me 3 hours (took me 1 hour for prologue of 1350 words). but the main time stealer is the reviewing of what you wrote. adding some things, erasing bullshit and such.
Yep, that time stealer is why I said it might take you a day XD. Check out grammatically or hemmingway editors. While they take some time to get used to, they can really help with proofing-side of writing.
In this One's opinion word count shouldth not be less than 2k for chapters. Prologue couldth be shorter.
the length of the chapter will be the end of me! but I'm still not gonna post those until I decide on the novel name and have enough chapters to boot
