It occurs to me that with their abilities, every single expert there should have been able to read that stele from a remote location using spiritual sense or whatever. There shouldn't be any need for them to physically take the stele. Now that they've found it, they should know what it contains and there shouldn't be any need to continue fighting to seize it. The xiu should be running and the yaomo should be chasing in hopes of killing all survivors to prevent the information on the stele from leaking out.
