(note: I like to break up the text blocks with relevant pictures, but somehow I want to keep it SFW. Sexual Training is not a SFW topic, so relevant... oh. Uncommon Stimulation pool on Danbooru. I LOVE YOU YOU SILLY CARDBOARD BOX SITE. Still NSFW but close enough)

One thing that men look for in women is innocence. In short, guys prefer virgins. I mean, it's not the most important thing, but most men prefer to be more experienced than (or at least equally experienced to) the woman they're going out with. They also like women to be obedient. ***** Obviously, not all men have those preferences, but enough care about this that an early dating sim company was driven out of business because their pure love game had one heroine who had a previous relationship and wasn't a virgin. Seriously.

On the other hand, men want their women to be good at sex (for obvious reasons). While it's possible for the woman to be a genius, or maybe she studied techniques to please the protagonist after falling in love with him, the most obvious answer to the problem is simple - the protagonist trains the woman. In a sexual meaning. Like with harems, most men won't be nearly as interested in this in real life. Because training is a lot of work.

This is an interesting tag because it's one of the few erotica scenarios that works better in written novels compared to manga, anime, or regular AVs. Though games can do it better. It's also focused on character development! And! It's the most common way to extend non-harem erotica in Nocturne! So it's kind of
important.

What's common in h-scenes for training stories? Well, the most pure (lol) training novel I can think of is this. I guess I'd have to say what sets training apart from any other plot/scenario tag is the explanations. They don't have sex naturally as their relationships grow, but the man carefully gives pleasure to the woman in order to create the relationship he wants. So there's a plan, and each sex scene is part of that plan. And the author will frequently compare how the heroine is now to her starting point, and he'll say how he wants her to end up, and he'll explain how the current scene will help change her.

... Yep, that's it. Anything that gives pleasure can be used for training, so almost any kind of scene can show up in a training story. It goes especially well with BDSM, mind control, toys, and "service" scenes from both sides are also common (because giving pleasure is most important during the scenes). And then add fantasy/sci-fi races and anything goes for what's pleasurable.

And that's why it's better in novel format, if you like that sort of thing - it really goes into the mentality of both the trainer and the trainee. Though, I'd say it's best in game format, letting you choose the methods and goals yourself. A company that specializes in this in Japan is KISS with games called "Custom Reido" and "Custom Maid" where you can actually customize the heroine appearances before going on to train them into your ideal reido (sex slave) or maid (sex slave).

Describing the genre, there are three main things to think about: Who is he training her for? What is he training her to become? Does she have a say in it? Depending on the answers, it becomes a vastly different story.

Most protagonists (in Nocturne stories!) do it for themselves. He wants her to be an ideal woman for him. The tag also covers training a woman for her own good or for others (usually slave training), though, so there's a little variety there. Even if I say the protagonist trains the woman for his own purposes, it's not like it's always non-consensual. There are even weird cases where he treats it as an act of charity to teach her to enjoy sex in general and then moves on.

The main variety comes from the destination. Mostly it seems they're evenly split between a slut (but only for the protagonist!) or a sex slave (if the author feels especially like degrading women today), with special mentions for meat toilets and rare cases of her having a condition that requires sexual training somehow. When I say "Slut" I mostly mean that she enjoys sex and actively seeks it out - I don't mean it as a bad thing. A sex slave being like a sex friend, but unable to request and unable to refuse. And a meat toilet is like a sex slave, but even more degrading (her being explicitly treated as an object).

And... the tone of the story is based on how consensual the training is. There's a very wide range, from "she actively requested it" to "she doesn't even know what's going on". Training can be a heartwarming exploration of a loving but inexperienced couple, or it could be a chilling(?) account of a woman being kidnapped and raped until she falls in love lust with her kidnapper. Most NTR, by extension, has some element of training, and it's also common in corruption-themed novels where someone (attempts to) turn a woman of justice into a slave, but it's usually not enough of a focus to be tagged in either of those.

AFAIK the tag would apply to men being trained too... but I don't have a good example of that. Sorry! I also don't have good pictures of that. Not sorry!

There are quite a few highly-rated "Training" novels on Nocturne that I wouldn't expect people to enjoy. I think you will understand without needing much explanation when I don't make a pickup request thread for a novel called "Molesting Bug" which features a protagonist controlling magic bees to train women into sex slaves. And I actually will probably request "Aiming For Maou While Turning Saints Into Slaves" since I think it deserves a bit better. There are two light novels out for that so illustrations can even be found~.

After all, I'll look at "Other World Trainer" (not to be confused with World Teacher). Summary: A man has the cheat ability of causing women he touches with his hand to feel pleasure... but he couldn't control it or hide it, so he was ostracized from society since elementary school, especially from women. This man luckily(?) gets summoned to a typical fantasy world by the current Demon Queen to train captured women as sex slaves for the demon army.

The protagonist actually holds on to his morals in this fantasy world: he doesn't want the job, but he'll be killed if he doesn't train sex slaves, and he doesn't have the ability to free them. The Demon Queen is Maou-like. The orc senpai is a good guy... towards the protagonist, but he's also training sex slaves in the way you'd expect from an orc if you've seen any R-15+ novels featuring orcs. There's a succubus who gets interested in him (like a hunter interested in prey). The first heroine to be trained is kind of a cliche female knight, which is a bummer...

... So when the protagonist meets the first heroine, he's at a loss. He doesn't know how to train a woman because he's a virgin outcast, but the Demon Queen has provided a helpful manual on exactly what to do. The problem is... he doesn't want to. He doesn't want to, but he'll die if he doesn't, and she'll just be trained by his reliable senpai. So, in some kind of combination of Stockholm Syndrome and Lima Syndrome, they fall in love with each other, and she's okay with being a sex slave if it's his sex slave...

... The Demon Queen isn't too happy about this, but the knight's been successfully trained. Oh, and the Succubus, who got affected by the protagonist's hand and eventually turned yandere, isn't happy about it either. But the protagonist is a trainer and he must keep training! :blobhero:

So the next heroine is a princess saint who actually wants to be trained and enjoy sex, but she has a few curses, namely, much reduced sense of pleasure - and anyone or anything that attempts to penetrate her will be castrated. The protagonist, finding out that the woman will just be killed, decides to save her by training her. Okay. :blobpopcorn:

... And LimaxStockholm strikes again, and he and the princess fall in love while he figures out how to lift her curse. But the Demon Queen won't let him keep all the sex slaves to himself, so off to the army she goes to comfort the soldiers... NTR? Nope. She comes back the next day after the first soldier to try having sex with her ended up castrated. Apparently the curse only lets the man who finds a way past it have sex with her. So now he has two personal sex slaves, and boy was each one surprised to find out she wasn't his only woman. (the succubus doesn't count because he doesn't want to be involved with her... but now she's even more obsessed with him)

So after the first two arcs (spoiler contents), I would have easily recommended it. Decent character growth, relationships that are believable, and everyone's likeable. Even the Demon Queen. Even with a cheat skill, it doesn't feel like the heroines fall in love too easily (because Stockholm Syndrome is a real thing). But I glanced ahead to the end of the next arc (just to see if the story was finished, since it was on hiatus for a while) and GDI at the last few lines :blobangery:
Demon Queen was supposed to join the harem... or so I thought until I saw that she dies... :blobsob:
... I'll still read it, I think that it probably just lacks an epilogue to tie together loose ends. It's just... It's the sort of thing that no one really wants to see in a novel about falling in love with sex slaves on accident while training them. Yeah, tragedy is something that can really upset readers even (especially) if it's well-done, so I can't really recommend a web-novel that uses it without up-front warnings. Especially when the author goes on hiatus after ending a chapter with said tragedy. :sweating_profusely:

Final Thoughts: Training is... not for everyone, I think. Even though I might have made a big deal about it at the beginning, it's the beginning and ending of the training that really counts to most people. Some people might enjoy the scenes in training novels with BDSM, or with Mind Control, or with netori/netorare or corruption, but that's mostly because they like those fetishes. It's probably best for people who enjoy DIY projects and/or psychology.

Anatomy and biology are great careers. *cough* Huh? Why did I cough? It's flu season again. What, it's summer? It's allergy season. What do you mean allergies don't make people cough?

      @AMissingLinguist
I'll probably post about BDSM since a ton of tags (including "Training") are heavily related. I don't really have a novel in mind for it yet though, so I'll probably be spending a lot of time on Nocturne this weekend. For Academic Purposes. :blobwhistle:

Uh, hmm, well, I lost my train of thought.

Interesting blog #4. There's a lot of topics to cover, so I wonder what's next.

@Fluffums Blog was one of the buggiest plugins Tony-chan ever saw, she doesn't understand how a plugin as old as this one is so buggy.
Like... No save draft, display was messed up, double alerts if someone tags you on your own blog... Triple if you watched it...
The thing of links not displaying is just until you refresh the page! They are working for me! ^^)/

And wow... Toothbrush was just... Wow.
The tail one made more sense.

Hmmmmm... The reasoning sort of makes sense! \(^^)/
Though yeah, mainly because the author wants I guess... But you gave a good reasoning! ^^)/

um, the links didn't show up for me.
Mm, I'll go more in-depth on tails, ears, horns, and wings when I inevitably post about monster girls, but it's mostly "because the author/artist wants it to be sensitive". If you want me to defend it, I could say that it's sensitive because it's vulnerable, much like letting someone caress or kiss your neck, or letting someone completely bind you up. Normally speaking, it would be dangerous, right? But that's also what makes it erotic when, instead of attacking the weak point, someone caresses it.

@Fluffums Well, learning to enjoy sex is okay, just... Doing it as some training to enjoy it in a specific way is weird...

It's like... I'm really submissive in bed... And I dunno, feels like the training could be about someone trying to make me a dominant... It's a scary thought! >.<

Ah, of course it gets weirder with the sex slaves and meat toilets... >.>

Link the gifs! I got curious! xD

Though isn't it a common trope that the tails end up being a sexually sensitive part...? For some weird reason... I mean, it's a relatively vulnerable part, why would it be sensitive!? >.<
    8. Fluffums Mar 20, 2018
@AliceShiki At its heart, training's just about someone learning to enjoy sex. It's not really that weird... until they start talking about sex slaves and meat toilets and whatnot, at least.

And yeah, that fifth picture is just "what", though it's not nearly as weird as the toothbrush scene from nisemonogatari or the parts from to-love-ru with Momo teasing Nana's tail. Gifs too big, couldn't upload. :blobsad:
