"Dammit!" Zinc cried out as he stared at the dead Chaurus, its body already beginning to deteriorate at a fast pace.

How could the runt die just like that when it had survived against so many times before? As soon as he thought about this, he answered himself. Maybe it was a case of overdose. Zinc had forced the runt-like Chaurus to drink poisonous fluids without giving it proper time to rest. The constant feed prevented the monster from processing the poison and the buildup eventually destroyed it. Zinc grimaced at the thought as he checked to see how many Chaurus eggs he still had left.

He had used 22 eggs. There were only 17 left. He must find a successful subject soon or all will be for naught. Zinc bent down and dissected the dead Chaurus with his Amputation Knife. Carefully, he removed the poisonous sac and stored the fluids in a rotect jar. He could not use the body, however, as it had been contaminated and served no further use for him. Next, he approached the nearest egg and disabled the emerging hatchling. As he poured the poisonous contents down the hatchling's throat, immediate disapproval flashed across his face. As expected, this baby Chaurus could not withstand the strong poison. Which of the remaining 16 can? It's near impossible...but Zinc had to go on. Even if the possibility is 1%, the doctor still continued with the experiment. 1% does not mean impossible.

And so, Zinc continued with his research. Hatchling #24, fail...Hatchling #30, fail...Hatchling #35, fail...Hatchling #38! In his fervor, the doctor sped through each unsuccessful hatchling without pause or care about his limited supply. To this, he regretted his actions. Zinc stared at the newborn with a displeased look. This was the second to last baby Chaurus and he still had not had any success. By now, the poisonous fluids in the rotect jar was strong enough to kill a full grown Chaurus! How can a baby survive? Maybe he should change his tactics. Maybe he should divide the poison to many dosages and feed them slowly to this newborn Chaurus. That way, the baby monster will have plenty of time to adapt.

Zinc took the jar of poison and funnel out a fraction of the fluid into the baby Chaurus's mouth at the start of each hour. During each hour, the baby Chaurus squirmed and changed into a spectrum of colors. It seemed like it was working as after each hour, the Chaurus was adapting to the poison and becoming more resistant to it. However, just as his hopes rose a bit, failure came about and slapped them down once more as suddenly, the baby Chaurus started foaming at the mouth. Before Zinc could do anything, the monster collapsed and its breath stopped for eternity. It was dead.
