Literally let's call it Nyann in Mafia.
So the first time I heard about mafia, I thought it was some kind crazy rp game lol
I took my first KR and mafia game in nuf so soooo seriously that my heart broke sooo bad when I got killed. In fact I got killed the same day on both of the games I was crying and depressed. Though I had no clue how to play mafia at all. I was really just posting fluff for the sake of posting. And changing my votes like crazy. I was definitely a common town but my behavior was extremely erratic and suspicious I couldn't even tell who was the mafia at all. Even till the end.
In the second game itself, I was told I improved greatly. It was the Civil War edition of @A5G_Reaper's DotA mafia. It was the best game I ever had. The faction chat that we had was soooo active. Though I was only good at playing along. I had no talent in reading at all. And at the end. I screwed up my team in an attempt to prove @Tony was town lol
It was a really fun game and everyone was soo active. @Blitz, @Fossil, @Zone Q11, @Cascadian Rex, @Daisydacrazy, @hey man, @Evil_Ginger, @Bielt, @Clozdark, @Meloncauli my faction team mate, I even pulled in @Enigma and @Nefasdetestasti and my sis, who also became my faction partner @Cypress. I am sorry if I didn't mention others lol. But these are really good players imo. It was SUCCCHHH a fun game for me.
Then, I slowly started to realise that.... I ended up being a mafia in almost every game! Probably in 70%-80% of the games I played so far I ended up being a mafia, it's as if, I would feel surprised if I ended up being town .
I thought playing as a town is hard. But playing as a mafia is soo damn hard. Firstly, you don't like your role. Because of the hero complex. Have attitude like "I would rather die than be a mafia" like @Anra777 says. Nothing like that. You're not the villain if you're a mafia. The town is the villain!
The town and ignorant and don't even know who their teammates are. As a mafia it's a challenge for you to have a good coordination with your teammates. In order to protect their identity you may have to sacrifice someone including yourself. Strategizing in the night chat and then looking out for the town powers... You are also burdened with a fear. That also makes you speak bullshit. And feel guilty. You are burdened not only with the fear of being discovered yourself, but also your teammates getting discovered.
The smooth way in which @Svalinn played as a mafia in one if the games was sooo impressive. It's just that, even when you are a mafia, act like town. Think what behavior would the town find suspicious. Involve yourself in the confusion and point fingers at each other.
My suggestion is that. Ok. If you think your teammates' behavior is suspicious, point it out. Keep it in shallow heat. Do not outright vote against them. Let others start the wagon. Actually this also comes naturally to me. Once I vote, I like to make it a proper one. I used to change votes like crazy before and members of one bandwagon had the excuse of blaming my if I went with the other if the other was a mislynch.
Why did I get the hunch that Casca was a ghost in @Fossil's game? It's because he started the bandwagon against @lighterxx and her turning out to be a ghost is almost as if he *knew* she was a ghost. And wanted to clear suspicions from himself. It happened once in another game when I was town, and the entire time I didn't suspect @Blitz just because he joined in lynching his teammate @GoldenGoddess.
I won in 70-80% of the games too. In DotA I won every time I was a Dire if I am not wrong. Not just me ofc. My teammates too.
But I would really like to have more challenges before me. I wish for good players and good activity. Don't worry newcomers, people can only suggest you how to play, but it's only you who can learn from your experience in Mafia. It's a really fun game when active.
I actually saw @Lemonfairy improving as the more games she played as if in front of my own eyes. With time you tend to look at the general pattern of how players behave and try to make understandings out of it.
Like there was this another bot game, in which I was dire and @Hasr11 was Chen. In the first day Hasr was totally on my side. On the next day she was against me and the reasons she was giving was false like "You switched your votes". This made us kill her in the night phase we totally took advantage of the fact she was inactive.
The "Bingo!" You feel when you guess someone's role correctly is amazing. It really shows that you are learning. Slowly. Let's have fun
