The Ugly Side of Hallyu

I was feeling somber this morning after hearing the news of another death yesterday and decided to dedicate this piece to revealing the not so bright side of the Korean entertainment industry. Some paragraphs indicate which person it's about which is shown at the very bottom. Enjoy~

Big eyes, small nose, thin lips and ant waist,
Don’t have any of these?
Well, hopefully your appearance doesn’t get a lot of hate.

It’s not a worry, don’t you worry, there’s plastic surgery.
But too much of it and so obviously,
the public will only mock you for your tomfoolery.

Want TV appearances, CM deals, brand ambassadors galore?
Better spread your legs and expect to be treated like a whore. (1)

Millions of fans, concert tours and even international trips
It’s not all that bad, you’re exaggerating, c'mon, get a grip.

I remember I was 7 when I got taken into entertainment.
16 years I’ve devoted my time to sharpening my craft.
Hope all this effort bears fruit and in music shows, we don’t ever place last.

Sometimes, I reminisce of my youth that I let slipped away.
I should’ve have listened my parents and kept my desire at bay.

You’re depressed? Fans are too obsessed?
Don’t worry, you’ll get over it, this is all a part of the job.
Yet one of us couldn’t take it
And held hands with the reaper,
Dying a slow death in his car
as his slumber got deeper. (2)

Ignore hate comments, fuck the anti-fans,
Words mean nothing, they don’t speak louder than actions
A girl at the tender age of 25
Took away her own life.
If that’s not a message of how badly she was damaged,
How could you sleep at night?
Knowing you took out someone else's ray of light? (3)

Another month had passed,
Everybody promised to do better.
Yet in her house, her body was on the floor, coldly as she silently lay
Following her best friend who had just passed away
In her prime, she was praised for being a rare beauty.
But because of a dark past, without any questions being asked, they all called her dirty. (4)

None of the culprits hiding behind their screens
Have ever fully suffered the consequences of their crime
Nor do they ever realize they were a part of why they died
They’ll live on another day and do it another time.

And now, it’s December.
Death has taken another
We’ll weep and sob say our hearts were shattered.
But the next day again, we’ll repeat what we do and move on unbattered. (5)
