Metal Working

Hello to all of you, I am here to talk about metalwork~ ^^
There are many things in which the players of our Adventurers Guild frequently have questions about, but if I were to point out one of the topics which the players have most doubts at, I would without doubt point at "Crafting". Crafting is actually pretty important for AG in both IC and OOC, as AG has many Quests, Items and even player characters which are developed thinking about it, so we the staff always try out best to make Crafting more and more spread and easier to understand for the player.
As such today we will talk about one of the most used parts of crafting Metalwork.
Many players have doubts about how many ingots to make a piece of equipment, how many ores to make an ingot and such.
So together with @shad12ow and @seriouslynope we started to formulate a way to give a good foundation for all those who want to try their hands at it, with an easier to understand set of rules/guidelines but at the same time making all of that as real as possible.
Ores and Ingots
So as we searched and discussed the best way to make it, we decided to make into sets of rules/guidelines, the first part being in relation to ores.
As many players already know, in AG there are many quests to acquire metal ores, but then the question comes "how to turn ores into ingots", well everyone probably knows that answer, but the real doubt in "how many ores to make an ingot".
Well, we could easily solve it by saying a random number, but what is the feeling of reality on that?
So we decided to use a bit more complex method, in real life how many ores you need for an ingot, depend on the quantity of metal the ore have. But how to decide how much metal the ore have on AG? well, the answer we reached is the quality of the vein it came from.
In AG world we have many mines throughout the map and all of them have different veins,
so each vein will have different ratings for each metal that can be mined there. These rates will determine the quality of the ores you can get there, and how many ores you will need to make an ingot.
The better the rating the fewer ores you will need, EX:
So following that table we will make a conversion table for the available metals on AG, based on the quality of the veins on the mines which the IC Guild have access to. and that table will be updated every time the Guild gain access to a new mine. (the table will follow the stats of the mine with the best vein for said metal)
Vein Quality Ore Quantity Ingots Excelent 3-4 1 Good 5-6 1 Medium 7-8 1 Bad 10+ 1
( size of the standard ingot in AG: 4 inches wide, 2 inches thick and 9 inches long.)
The Guild, for now, has access to 2 mines:
Desert Mine
Gallant Mine
(This table will be constantly updated)
Metal Vein Quality Ore Quantity Ingots Mine Gold Excelent 4 1 [Desert Cooper Good 5 1 Desert/Galant Iron Good 5 1 Galant Mithril Good 6 1 Galant Orichalcum - 7 1 Desert Kypris - 13 1 Desert Siderite - 14 1 Galant
Forging Those IngotsAs we talked about the 1st part of the metalworking craft, we will talk about the second.
As many people have doubt, how many ingots is needed to create each kind of item?
Well obviously there will be differences depending on how the player wishes his item to be, but we can set a guideline for the players basing it on reality.
As our friend, @seriouslynope usually points out, "what you can forget with a single ingot depends on how much you can flatten and stretch it"
as the time passed and new techniques and technologies came out, metal working advanced it became possible to create thinner and stronger plates, making it lighter and also using less material.
Following what our resident specialist says a rough estimate of the metal content that composes different arms and armor.
- 1 ingot = 1 greatsword, 1 mail shirt/haubergeon, 1 breastplate + backplate, 1 fauld/plackard front and back, 1 brigandine/coat of plates...(breastplate+backplate and fauld/plackard assembly = 1 plate cuirass), arm harness (vambrace, rerebrace, couter, spaulders...half ingot for an arm), pair of complete leg harness (cuisse, poleyn, greave)
- half ingot = some one-handed sword (falchions, messer, dao, arming sword), 1 poleaxe, 1 bardiche, 1 breastplate, 1 backplate, 1 pair of Sabaton, 1 nonfull-faced helmet (sallet, kettle hat, cervelliere).
- 1/4 ingot = 1 dagger, 1 knife, 1 spearhead, 1 axehead (dane axe or a one-handed axe).
- 3/4 ingot = pair of pauldrons, 1 longsword, 1 falx, 1 katana? (not sure since traditional ones are not made with homogeneous steel), rapier (and other complex-hilted swords)
here a video that may help you too (courtesy of Nope)
I hope this guideline help you all on your journey through our world of AG~
