PR can have weird effects

So... I think it's no secret that a bunch of people in NUF hate AsianHobbyist for the most varied reasons... I won't bother going into my opinion of them, but this blog post is about one thing in particular that kinda picked my attention.

The people that whine about AsianHobbyist tended to whine so so much about the pagination system to maximize ad revenue and what not... And well, regardless of me agreeing or disagreeing with it, it did surprise me a bit by how bothered some people were by chapters being split into chunks with around 500 words each for the sake of maximizing ad revenue.

Well, since some time ago I found a site that translates Chinese Webtoons that does the exact same thing, but rather than splitting one chapter into chunks of 500 words, they split it into chunks of 4-6 panels to maximize ad revenue... Sometimes I'm even wondering if all the panels loaded properly because it was so short! >.<
They also ask for 200$ of donations every month to buy raws (which is definitely more than they need to buy raws judging by their release pace) and the site doesn't even have a proper formatting, so the ads actually go into the panels blocking a bit of your view of the webtoon you're reading.
... Oh, and they have a blockadblock that doesn't let you browse the site at all with adblocker on, and also a thing that disables right clicking in the site... And they also encourage readers to tell aggregators to not host their work... Something that obviously never works.

Overall, the webtoon site feels like a greedy guy that tries putting a nice person facade to earn some easy money from translating while going to university and what not... It kinda annoys me, but it's perfectly fine on their end... Well, the thing is, I never saw anyone complain about it or anything, not about the absurd 200$ donation, the ads that block your view of the panels, not about the page splitting and definitely not about the super annoying right click blocking thing. On the other hand, Asianhobbyist has a lot more hatred even though they actually do less annoying things than this site.

It's kinda funny for me to look at it I guess... I think most readers don't care about it in the end, but the bad PR certainly creates a bunch of haters that will just search for a bunch of reasons to hate what you do it seems. Sure, some complaints are pretty legit, but still not enough to hate the site like how some people seem to hate IMO...

Oh well, that was my small rant about how bad PR can create a bunch of haters I guess~

      @R0 None of those actually... Honestly speaking, I agree with most things Wuji's does, but disagree with the with the way he does them, but I respect him for not caring about whining people and just saying whatever is on his mind.
      I'm not really against any of the things he did for his own site though, I guess I can say that much~

      But in this blog I just kinda wanted to point out how someone does (IMO) worse stuff than Wuji does, yet you don't see a single complaint about them... Probably because they didn't raise a bad reputation for themselves like Wuji did.

      People complaining for no reason, and expect a free meal. They are doing what can be considered a second job or a part time job translating, but let me complain about ads because it costs more data because I want to read it in public off my wifi.
