In my last blog I kinda talked about how I rediscovered some childhood songs just yesterday, which was pretty funny to me and stuff, but... I kinda realized that there was a childhood-related activity that I have been doing for much longer, like, a few months.

I have been in a huge digimon binge recently. I went all the way from the original anime until the end of Digimon Xros Wars and already started Digimon App Monsters. I also player Digimon World 1, 2, 3, X and the first Digimon Story game and am going to start Digimon Story Dawn/Dusk soon. The games vary a lot in quality, from very good (like DW1) to garbage-tier (like DW3 and DWX), but I'll be focusing primarily on the anime in this blog.

And honestly, the digimon anime surprised me by how much of a good series it was. I went after it on a whim at first, but like... Dear God, digimon is amazing! Well-developed characters, an engaging plot, character growth, good twists and... Children that feel like children. I really feel like it's important to stress this one out, because... It's quite hard to depict children when we already are adults, isn't it? We have to capture a feeling we don't remember anymore after all.

And like, sometimes you see animes (pokemon comes to mind, but it's not the only one) that have children as the protagonists, yet they feel like teenagers with smaller bodies... You don't see Ash crying for his mom or searching for an adult to help him out when he is in trouble, but you see the children in digimon doing that, because well... They're scared, being thrown into a whole new world out of nowhere and stuff. I really like that part of digimon~ (rather, I quickly realized I don't like (at least not nearly as much) digimon serieses that don't start by throwing the digidestined to the digimon world on chapter 1)

But another thing that is really interesting from seeing digimon and that screams "childhood" to me, is watching the first series and seeing the difference between our common sense and their common sense back then.

For example, in the recent series, the first thing that happens when the children are thrown in the digital world, is that they check their phone and see that there is no signal... In the old series, after an episode or two, they arrive at a beach with telephone booths, so they try calling home, but the call doesn't connect... Because well, cellphones weren't a thing back then, so they needed a both if they wanted to call home, it's quite different from what we expect nowadays.

Or in the first digimon movie, Koushirou and Taichi needs to use his parents' computer to connect to the internet. Moreover, when Keramon takes over the phone company's network, they need to use the emergency line messaging in order to keep into contact instead of using Line or whatever... Because again, no cellphones.

Not only that, when they finally get to talk to Yamato and Takeru, they ask Yamato to find a computer ASAP in order to connect to the internet, but as Yamato was visiting his grandmother in Shibuya, they had a real issue of having to find someone with a computer in their home, "There are no computers in Shibuya!" Yamato says.

Can you imagine that? Having a real issue of finding a house with a computer in it? It's pretty crazy for our standards, but it is nice seeing it depicted in an old anime, and very fun to realize how much things changed in those last 20 years.

And then there is also Digimon Tri, which is like... Super mega ultra awesome OMG I loved that anime so much! I'm mega hyped for Last Evolution Kizuna, hopefully it goes to Crunchyroll once it's released, because I reaaaaaally don't wanna wait until March to have it localized and... Released only in US theaters! >.<

Please give me an online sub soon! >.<

Well, that about wrap up this blog, maybe I'll write another one about the digimon games and talk a bit about how messy some of them are and some seem to not be as liked as they should... But this one is long enough when talking just about the animes~

Hopefully it was fun to hear a bit about how I felt re-watching all those things from my childhood~ (although I only watched up to Frontier back when I was a child... Oh well~)

Can't read it now as I'm needing to get to school. Someone ping me in four hours so I don't forget!
