The rain drenched earth that you stop to smell.
The wooden table that you bang your wrist on when all words escape.
The iridescent shine of your hair on a summer day.
Tanned skin after hours under the sun
and dipping your feet in the pond in your backyard.
The tree branches we used to climb as kids
and the ground that embraced us when we fell.
The spotted rabbit you remember as a faint memory.
Your eyes –
When I gaze into them at night: half-closed, chocolate;
When you are staring at a book under the lamplight: chestnut;
When the sunrays illuminate them as you smile: honey.
That is my favourite colour.
