My eyes snap open,
My chest is cold, my embrace empty.
Dry streaks of tears on my cheeks.
Had I been crying, really?

I stare at your sleeping face,
Warm and peaceful, tender in love.
My fingers reach out to touch.

Only to embrace
One thousand miles of empty space.
