Last Friday, my 15 year old cousin asked me to help him build his custom pc for the first time. I agreed. No big deal, so I helped him choosing parts and stuffs according to the price range. We built it together and I thought him some basic stuffs. He and his parents looked me like I'm some sort of genius. Tbh I'm quite proud of that but honestly, it's nothing much.

Suddenly, his father was like "let's throw the old one away". I was like "what? You already had a pc?". They said the pc was broken. It's a prebuilt pc, and the motherboard is damaged. So they had to buy a new one. I asked who told them that, they said it's the pc store owner. I was like "that's bullshit, let's salvage the pc".

To my surprise, the old pc is no pushover. I5 kabylake with gtx 1070, 2x8gb ddr4.

WE SHOULD HAVE JUST BOUGHT A NEW MOBO INSTEAD OF BUILDING A NEW. I shouted in my heart.

The new pc is i3 with gtx1050ti 2x8ddr3.

THIS IS A DOWNGRADE! I shouted in my heart once again.

To make matter worst, my uncle said, go ahead take the usable parts and keep it for yourself, we want to thank you.

MY GREED TOOK CONTROL OF MY BODY.

There's this guilty feeling lingering in my heart.

I didn't tell them because of two reasons.

1) I wanted those parts
2) I don't want to make them feel bad that they just build a lowrange pc when midrange pc is available for them.

Everyone is happy, except the store guy. He needs a new job. Wow, those specs...

Well, I can understand how you feel.

I'd like to say I'd be a wonderful good girl and tell them that they should keep the old PC because it is better, but I can't say I'd do it without actually being in the situation... Well, I don't know how to assemble a PC in the first place, so it would never happen to me though.

Still, you helped them, you allowed them to build the best PC within the price range they had available, and you taught them that they shouldn't trust that store clerk anymore.

Overall, I think you did a good thing... You could have been a greater paragon I guess, but they were happy with your help, and I think you can be happy with what you did too.

I don't think you should feel guilty when all is said and done cause it already happened. You can't exactly go back and return the PC you bought right? Aaand if you had known that they had a old PC in the first place then I don't think you would have done that... I think? Well, it's all in the mind. Don't feel bad about it.
