I can still see you

I can still see you. I can remember it as if it were yesterday. That first and last day I saw you. You were a year younger than me, yet you looked so tired, as if you'd given up. And I was still relatively young as well. I loved the air you gave off, though you looked so very sad, it reminded me of me.

You had given up and not expected anything or anyone. And I too shared the same sentiment. But then I saw you and you saw me, and I felt something I had never felt before. I felt alive again. I felt as if I met someone who could understand me. That you had felt the same things I had felt.

And I imagine it was the same for you. You looked so vacant, but then our eyes met. You were gray, and then you glowed a blinding radiance.

And then we said goodbye without saying goodbye. Our eyes simply left the other's. It was like pulling myself free from iron chains. It was like starving, and throwing my last meal to the sea.

I had never felt that way before. I'm not sure if I ever will again. But at least I could feel happiness for a moment. And that feels like enough for this life. Hell of a lot better than never feeling it in the first place.

But if I ever see you again, I'll fight through heaven and hell for you.
