So, I've recently started editing more, and am working with a pretty cool TL-er. But, I've noticed something, and it has nothing to do with the TL-er, because I've seen this with others, but sometimes Chinese -> English translations have so many freaking repetitions. Does China not allow a thesaurus or something? I wondered for a while if it had something to do with the characters having a lot of different meanings, but I would assume that would create the opposite situation where there was nearly no repetition. Even when I read a novel via mtl, I see whole phrases double typed. Do they not have kind souls to proofread for them? Is there no spell/grammar check? And I realise that different countries have different grammar, but really? And does mtl just suck that bad that it auto-reads things repeatedly?

Ugh, don't mind this rant, I'm just tired of being glued to a thesaurus right now and repetition kills me.

im not sure in mtls since google dont give precise translations but those repetitive phrases maybe due to cn authors wanting to lengthen their works?
i think i once saw google translate 2 different cn text but have same english text

In some cases I can see that. Especially when an mtl sys something like "he walked and he walked". But when repeatedly using a word or phrase, I can't really see that as anything except laziness. But, I also realise that is my own bias

      Repetition could mean emphasis?
