So, if any of you read my novel reviews, then you'll know this one Rebirth after being abducted. The novel is also about human trafficking in China.

Okay, now back to my title. I just read a thread about modern day slavery. I know that there are slaveries in plantation industry (I knew because there was a thread about a missing person and people said to be careful as it's very possible that the victim got trafficked to a plantation to work), but I just knew about slavery in the fishing industry about a year ago. It went viral and everyone was shaken. The news spread, etc.

In the novel, there's a part where ML and FL sneaked into an island where there are many slaves there. The trafficked people worked to clean the fish, shrimps, etc, and pack them, etc.

It turns out, there are so many victims of this modern day slavery in the fishing industry. The thread that I read is about the slavery on C's country fishing ships. The stories are heart breaking, and I'm quite astonished that I never knew about it.

The victims are overworked, not given proper food and drink, and not given their salaries. They can't even escape. Some tried to escape by jumping to the sea. I saw several people recommending books, articles, and short movies on the reply section. So, well, I guess I'll try to read and watch them.
