I remember talking with a friend. I asked them “how much vanilla extract would you need to drink in order to get drunk?” I explained because vanilla extract has such a low amount of alcohol percentage it must be, like, a ton of extract that one will need to drink in order to get drunk. Then, that person proceeded to explain to me that vanilla extract has such a small amount of alcohol that you can’t get drunk off of it, if you did you have to drink a lot of it. I said, I know that and was wondering how much one would need to drink. Once again they said “Well there is basically no alcohol in extracts that you can’t get drunk.” I was like fine, you don’t have to humor me and dropped the topic. Fast forward to today, I began to wonder the same question and was reminded of that conversation. So I looked it up and apparently you can get drunk off of 4 or 5 oz of vanilla extract. Which is less then I expected. Looking back on it, I think, they thought I was planning on getting drunk on it or I was worried that I was going to get drunk. Anyways, don’t drink extract, that stuff is nasty.

So if you made a set of cupcakes with 5oz of van extract then you get drunk if you eat them all?

Tastes nasty, but is my ultimate favorite smell. Particularly the better quality ones. (Whole Foods is not surprisingly better than Stop and Shop.) I legit kept an empty bottle to sniff from time to time for months until my husband eventually threw it out.
