R-18 Novels That I Won't Request Translations For, #1 - Call Me Daddy

Novels I've made threads for are all stories I'd probably rate 4 or 5 stars - I legitimately think they're good above and beyond the h-scenes and can be enjoyed by a wider audience. But I'll read a 2 star or 3 star novel if it's my fetish there's something special about it. I can't in good conscience recommend it to translators for adoption, but it's still worth the research. So I thought about making blog posts for these special novels to show a little of the variety of web novels that get popular on Nocturne (Nocturne is a Japanese web novel site for Adult/Smut novels targeting men that's pretty user-friendly, and where the R-18 and R-15 tags on NU come from pretty much - there's a sister site with porn for women and another site, both of which I haven't really looked at yet).

I usually find novels by checking the Rankings. Because of how the ranking works, daily ranking is dominated by new novels with interesting ideas, or written by popular authors, or a great h-scene early on. Weekly, Monthly, and Quarterly are basically the same, but you know that the story appeals to a wider variety of (Japanese) fetishes readers accordingly. Yearly ranking is where you find the gems. You know there's more than just some guy writing his fetish there - a great story, great humor, great descriptions... something special to it that makes people keep coming back in a way that normal porn can't compare. Of course, for people new to the site, you can search by overall ranking - you'll see a lot of familiar titles there if you've been reading R-18 on NU.

Because I'm a researcher, I'll check out almost anything new in the top 5 rankings, so I've seen quite a variety since I started. However, I'll acknowledge that the things I've seen most often in the upper rankings are harems and lolis. Not that there aren't plenty of novels that focus on monogamous relationships between adults, mind you, but loli harems are surprisingly popular over there. It's not what I was originally planning to talk about today, but it's probably more appropriate for a first post, so I'll introduce you to a nice little story called "Can I Call You Father?"

As you should expect from the leadup, it's a loli harem. But not just any loli harem! It's a harem of lolis with huge breasts and butts who all call the protagonist "father"! Yeah! You can see why I didn't recommend it for pickup! *ahem*

Summary: The protagonist, an ordinary middle-aged salaryman, is dealing with stress and considering ending it all in a park at night, when the main heroine, a 13yo girl with an E-cup, asks him to buy her. After agreeing and taking her virginity, he later finds out she was abandoned by her parents and decides to take her in, thus starting their strange life as father/child and lovers... Other heroines include classmates with F-cup and D-cup sizes respectively, and the main heroine's little sister, an 11yo with a C-cup.

I resisted reading this for a while for reasons that should be obvious, but eventually I opened it up and found... well, exactly what the summary says, but it was very surreal in some ways. The author doesn't let you forget that you're reading about lolis, constantly referring to them as "small" "immature" "weak" "thin", but at the same time, where do you find so many young girls so well-developed? It breaks my immersion, especially when the F-cup (from France) is saying "All girls back home have boobs this size at my age". France is seriously amazing!

So there are parts where I go "wtf did I just read?" like that, and there are heartwarming and nice parts, and the h-scenes are not bad at all if I think of the girls as adults because I can only picture them as AV actresses with baby faces. Overall, it's a surprisingly good romance(?) and, seeing as I've already failed to suspend my disbelief the moment the girl seriously asks the man who took her virginity to be her father, the harem doesn't make the story worse. If anything, the girls serve to help push the main couple closer in some ways while adding more variety to the h-scenes. Another thing that surprises me is that the protagonist doesn't really come off as trash or scum to me - he had a moment of weakness, he took responsibility for his actions, he's properly taking into account the will of the girls.

All in all, it was definitely worth the read for me, with a lot of good parts, but they don't fit together too well because there are a lot of little jarring parts that ruin my boner immersion. I think that taking out the sex and exaggerated chests would make it a heart-warming story about little girls finding a kind surrogate father to look after them, and I would recommend that 5/5. As it is... I don't even know how to rate it other than Japan/5. Or /5.

This is actually normal enough for Japan considering all girls involved are 11 years or older with well-developed bodies and it's basically all "normal, happy sex". Any thoughts or suggestions for this or future blog posts?
