Anyways the reason why I’ve been all up in trying to do this was because “Tyrants Only Perfumer” has a lot of potential, just executed poorly and not as aggravating as “Duchesses 50 Tea Recipes”.
I already have the main characters and a decent premise, and then I pinned and went on a research craze about starting a physical store, perfume making, etc.
Well turns out modern perfumes only have some basis in the 1940? Because that’s when spray bottle technology was invented. Not to say they didn’t exist, cause they did. But they were a more like tonic water, or fragrance mist (really watered down essence). Application wasn’t even on skin, instead things like handkerchiefs, gloves and clothing. Which is really smart cause not safe perfume can give toxic fumes and skin rashes!
But that was just the final nail. Because personally I decided to think of magic technology like stand mixers and hydraulic press, for what reasons? You don’t need to know. But for basic stuff I decided the general living period of 1860-1900. Oh boy, the FDA wasn’t born then! Hazardous products just wilding in the market. Neither was plastics lol. Nope, just glass! Or other inert and unreactive materials.
The time period is just a bottom line for which I can do my research, because it’s a European fantasy. Honestly I can just gloss over how spray technology even works, but the joy of a small business is the little things like packaging. I really do enjoy watching small businesses prepare large orders which there own touch (though it racks up cost and waste material).
Damn, I even looked up how clinical trials (aka human experiments) worked. Let’s just say they wouldn’t pass with today’s standard and I only took reference with that Scishow episode about that one guy and a bunch of other guys eating things. Though it doesn’t make for a very charismatic story if the protagonist is doing it, BUT I do have some workarounds to reason.
Damn.

You and Mr Popo like this.

Okay. I’ve settled with myself and decided to have a European fantasy, with settings of the 1860-1900, and let’s call it a “progressive era” or that sort of spheal. But technological advances minus plastic from the 1940s,
