There are two types of friendship.
One is this dramatic kind of friendship with heartfelt joys and heartbroken sorrows where there is enough drama to sustain the audience till a medium size popcorn tub can be finished, at least!
Then, there is the slow-burning type of friendship where two people sat in their separate spaces, occasionally looking up at each other and having a warm conversation.
Which one is preferable?
The matter rests with the people concerned.
What happens when two people with two different ideas of friendship happen to come together? Are they supposed to remain friends or not?
Any sane person will say that it is impossible for two such people to remain friends for any given length of time. And, they are right, indeed!
But what happens if one of them realizes their folly?
What if one of them comes to accept the other as the person they are?
What, if one realizes that to let go is to become more fulfilled?
What, if one comes to understand that there can be closeness of mind even in occasional sharing of thoughts?
Can they once again become friends?

@Bad Storm, at one point of time people may become entirely selfless. though it's hard to believe it unless you really meet one.

Well, honestly, I believe it will never work unless they both meet halfway. One can't be entirely selfless
