Is the way she deals with the old lady any good and satisfying? Because from the first time the old lady is introduced after the mc is back to in time, she does not seem that clever and perceptive, so I'm afraid that she won't even understand the way the mc will play her entire family to ruins.

I thought this novel didn't have a happy ending so I didn't give it a try. Now that you said it's actually a happy ending I want to know who is the male lead that the female lead ends up with.

Family must be protected, the huge enmity must be avenged, the Imperial seat of the country must also be part of the trophy. In this lifetime, let’s see who can beat the others!

But that little marquis from the Xie family, the arrogant and obstinate spear carrying youth, stood biasedly at her side and proudly said, “Just the fall of the Imperial power. Remember this, the world belongs to you. You– Belong to me!”

I thought the ML was quite obvious? Extra: In her previous life, he met her when she was the Queen and promised to have a drink with her in the end.
If going by the first to die, round 1 should be Gui Mo Mo. Shen Miao also has a habit of visiting during their final hours for a farewell send off. Gui Mo Mo was the first to receive this.

I don't think I've read that novel before so...
    More added to my list!

I was wrong about the exams arc, it's around the 30s, which meant it would be awhile before the translator could reach these few chapters. So, I'm gonna give a little more detail than I planned on giving, just because.
A total of five people had drawn the drawing slot and the topic to be drawn is chrysanthemums. Shen Yue has also picked the same category so she is ready to win this examination, since she has prepared and practiced a lot for this category. She is especially confident in beating Shen Miao, she is known to be talented, after all.

The time limit for this assessment is a period of one burning stick of incense.
When the results were announced, to everybody's surprise, Shen Miao has won!
Shen Yue's smile was frozen on her face, she thought that she must have misheard the name that had been called out.

The drawings were then brought out for display to the public. The last place was a simple pathway/garden lined with chrysanthemums, the third was a single stalk of chrysanthemum. This chrysanthemum was painted with excellent technique and it looked extremely life-like, but the grading criteria for this assessment did not solely consist of technique, but also depended on the meaning of the drawing. By ignoring that criteria, the third place winner actually went off topic.

When Shen Yue's second place piece was revealed, the crowd gasped. Her piece depicted a garden of chrysanthemums enduring the force of nature. The howling winds raged across the garden, threatening to uproot the flowers of the garden. But the persistence of the flowers could be felt through the painting, carrying their desire to withstand the elements. Two lines of poetry were also included in the painting. The high technique shown by Shen Yue and the accompanied poem was already good enough to please any judge into giving her the first place! The crowd wondered what exactly had the first place Shen Miao drawn?

    宁可枝头抱香死,何曾吹落北风中。
    Vague explanation:
It is part of a poem titled "画菊" according to google. It is trying to convey that the chrysanthemums would prefer to die where they have settled their roots(their place of comfort, foundation) even if they had to suffer, rather than willingly getting swept to faraway lands by the northern winds.

ie: It is highlighting and admiring the willpower of the chrysanthemums to not bend to any force, no matter how strong they become. The flowers are proud of the ground they are rooted in. They cannot be uprooted from their dedication and loyalty to the soil, the motherland that they were born in, and them clinging onto the soil is a vow to stay loyal to this land.

    A little more info:
The northern winds actually refer to the Mongol Empire, so if the flowers(citizens(?)) were to give in it would be as if they were giving in into the attacks by the Mongols themselves, and the chaos that would bring.
Someone else can probably do a better job explaining the whole original poem... so please do
    ( ̄ω ̄;)

Finally, Shen Miao's art was revealed!

The canvas was expansive, but the drawing itself only occupied a small portion of the paper.

The technique for this drawing is not exactly exemplary, and much of the space was unused. The background scenery is roughly drawn out. But the rough lines gave off the impression of a vast and magnificent air. On the paper, were sand dunes, the setting sun bloody red in colour, a broken sword stabbed into the sand. Under that sword, a white chrysanthemum.

In contrast to the whole drawing, the flower seemed tiny. It seemed like it was only a smudge in the picture, with details such as the flower's petals not explicitly drawn. But the presence of the single speck of white in the drawing felt right, as if it was what made the painting exceptionally bleak and desolate, making those emotions ooze out of the painting.

It was an image of war.

As the first place winner, Shen Miao has to give a speech on what she has drawn.

She claims that her drawing was derived from the stories of war that her father has told her when he returned. Many soldiers and heroes die in the sand dunes. And because the journey was too long, they had to bury the fallen behind beneath the sand. In the desert, chrysanthemums do not grow. The flowers grew in the more humid south, in the bustling cities, where they could safely grow at the expense of the soldiers for protecting those lands.

Those buried in the desert did not have the privilege of having any offerings given to their final resting place, much less a single stalk of chrysanthemum. After all, flowers do not bloom in war, and the dead were not properly mourned, their relatives only able to wear and bestow flowers in their hometowns faraway from them.

Shen Miao wanted to use the chance to draw this portrait to replace the gesture of physically being there at their graves and placing the chrysanthemums there, as a gesture of respect and appreciation.
SO MANY WORDS YAY. (1k summary lol)
The flow of text is really off, but the important content from those chapters have largely been retained.(please be gentle)

The whole Shen family will be executed due to suspected treason.
One of the Shen daughters sought patronage from the Qin prince and become his concubine. No one, not even her parents or the 9th prince knew about this. This was leaked out to the Emperor and it became a link between a possible collusion from the Qin and the 9th Prince.
Ironically, they were innocent in this case but because of the suspicion and that the Emperor cannot kill his own son and the prince of another country, the Shen family received the brunt of the anger.
In the prison, they later realized that so many inauspicious things happened to the Shen family and yet Shen Miao's family are all unscathed. Oh, she later went and watch their execution.
Another cliff. This isn't the last Shen to be killed off yet.

Any spoiler about the romance building side?
How the ML felt in love with her and how she came to love him?
And since I assumed that her ex-husband wouldn't get the throne, who'd inherit the throne in the end?

Not an answer, sorry. I just wanted to say, I wish she'll get the throne, become the Empress, and the ML her Imperial Consort. Hey, I dream big :D.

    @ludagad Likewise
But wasn't our ML only a marquess w/o any royal ties? So if he were to be the emperor, I supposed there has to be some kind of rebellion?
I'd really prefer them to end up like the main couple in "princess wei young" or in "chu wang fei", since if he were to be the emperor, he would be forced to take many concubines......

What about the 9th Prince? What retributions does he receive? They were all bad people and I love how they are getting what they deserve, but out of everyone, I want him to suffer the most! Does he actually fall in love with the MC like I have seen in some other 'rebirth' novels?

Well, the mtl was a bit confusing but
the ex-husband became the emperor of the country but was in a war with ML but in the end he was defeated...

ML and MC was in a different country, i think in the end they became the royal couple of that country... there seems to be a secret in the ML's background..
Sorry it was really vague, i need to revisit and re-read the raws again...

that was the ending by the way, and in those last arc, it became quite absurd because in that the MC in the middle of this life somehow travelled once again in another lifetime and had to convince that realities' ML counterpart to help her so she can return to this reality/lifetime...

It's the same as other novels. ML will become the emperor and FL the only empress. ML rejected harem. Except in this case, ML is actually the Prince of Dali (secret identity), and Dali will eventually conquered both Ming (current country) and Qin. FL didn't managed to live in her past live to the point where Ming was conquered.

9th Prince died in both cases. He didn't exactly get it bad. He became the emperor eventually, but courtesy of FL, she did get to screw him even when she's far away. Dali's military document was leaked to the 9th Prince but not before she made adjustment to them causing him to lose war after war. He was eventually killed by his own follower while trying to escape. He didn't fall in love, he just died.

Yeah, the ending arc was quite absurd. It didn't need to be there.

    I skimmed like mad, but
He was actually not related to the Xie family, but is actually Rui Qin Wang, the brother of the king in another city/area(I'm not good with those royal terms)

I skimmed like mad and found that section... but I didn't read anything that sounded like an explanation...

I'll summarise that section a little later when I have the time (☆ω☆)

    EDIT: HERE!

Due to certain reasons, Shen Miao is now in a comma.
She had a difficult childbirth and excessive bleeding had weakened her greatly
So it was uncertain if she would ever wake up again, and if she would be mentally sane when she wakes.

But what was happening was that Shen Miao was having a very good dream.

Dressed in yellow, she was strolling through the streets with a head full of gold jewelry. The crowd could not help but look at her as she passed. The person in question was confused. At one moment, she was in the palace, in the next, she was here, strolling through the streets.

These streets were familiar, so she wondered how far back did she actually go back to... perhaps before she started obsessing with Fu XiuYi?

Or was she dreaming? Or was what had happened previously the dream?

She encounters Taoist Chi Yan who addressed her as "madam" rather than "miss".(rmbr she hasn't been married at this stage.)
he's a guy that has met her once in her previous life, and twice in her current life. He has helped her in her second life, and knows that she had lived this life more than once.

He tells her that this will be her last obstacle that she has to face. Two choices lay ahead of her: She could live out another possibility in this dream, leaving her other body to slumber for eternity, or see could seek out the male mc and make him bring her to palace in Da Liang. The moment they step into the place, she will wake up back in her body.

They are strangers in this life so it's hard for Shen Miao to even meet him, much less talk to him. Apparently he knows, but he doesn't care.

The first time she talks to him, she just straight out gives him the request for him to take her there. Since only those that know of his actual identity being royalty in that city/area, he tries to intimidate her. This angers Shen Miao so she leaves.

Her further attempts did not yield success, so she slowly became more discouraged. In the many different scenarios of each world, how could he always choose her?

Anyways, she managed to eventually convince him to take her there, and on the way, she tells him of her experiences in the other life, outside of the dream world before she leaves.

Before she leaves, Xie JingXing tells her to hurry, to not let the real him wait for her for too long.

tldr: no explanation found for her time travel reason in the last arc...
