Discussion What's your acceptable novel's rating?

As the topic says. When searching for the interesting novel, what's your 'general' minimum to drag it to you personal list?

For me, it 4.2/5.0 of more than 30 voting.

I don't go by rating but no. of chapters (percentage of story TLed) and reviews posted by users.
NU ratings and rankings are flawed. ATG has 12th rank when at least 7 out of 10 ppl will say XIan Ni is better novel with 50th rank.

 

I've stopped giving a crap about ratings a long time ago, there are some stories below a 2* rating that I enjoyed more than some that are above 4.5*.

 

3.5+ with a significant number of votes. Generally around 30-50 depending on the spread.

I do however generally avoid novels depending on their synopsis even up to 4.0 ratings if the rating seems to be split between ratings for 4 or 5 and 1. That just screams of it being divisive with possible vote tampering depending on the split.

I suppose the most important thing for me is to actually read one or two of the reviews, I'll take minor spoilers to save hours of my time.

 

I don't care for ratings anymore. Sure some of them are probably real. But there's a lot of people that puts 1* for no reason. Now I just read the synopsis sounds interesting. Checks tag to avoid rape ntr etc. No? Good I'll try it out.

 

I used to only able read novels with 4.7 and above before, but after reading Invisible Dragon, I realized how wrong I was.

You can't trust them ratings made by haters and trolls

 

If you look, almost all novels always have a 1/5 rating once or twice, even those with a 4.8 average. There are people out there who will give a 1/5 even if it is the best story in the world, all because they didn't like the main character's middle name, so I've learned to not give a crap about the rating.

I look at the reviews people wrote and see what they said and compare it to others. I look at what people point out is bad and what people point out is good and see if I'm in the mood for that kind of story. If people are willing to take the time out to write a review and explain those points, then I know they've put a bit more effort into composing and expressing their opinion.

 

I don't really see the ratings... after all, not all of them(rating giver) have the same taste as me and reading the review and spoiler is good enough for me~

 

4.5+, 100+ votes when being picky. Otherwise 4.0+, 100+ votes. In addition to quick look at reviews.

 

I follow the GoodReads criteria for rating:

1. Hate it
2. Okay
3. Like it
4. Really Like it
5. Love it

So as long as it's 3, I'll read it. Granted, most people rate 3 as being "okay", so it's a bit iffy when going by other's ratings. You have to look at their other reviews where you can to make sure.

I don't pay attention to ratings, it is a flawed system. I saw people writing somewhat decent review who decided to rate the novel 1 star just to bring the rating down because they believe it was too high in their opinion. So they would write a decent review, talking about the good and bad part of the novel, and then *Bam!* a 1 star rating. (0_0) Every time I see this, I shake my head and think that these people have no integrity and honesty.

Rating? As long the total number of people who rate it 3~5 is quite a lot even though the red bar(rated 1) quite long , It should enough to make me to try it.

 

Well, I never find any novel to read based on the rating since they are flawed just like what the others said. Because I get the feeling that it has no difference with RRL's rating. LOL

Joking aside~

I read what I like based on the stories themselves. If I don't like it, I will drop it immediately without any hesitations. If I like it, I include them into my Reading List/other lists to read without hesitations.

 

After I saw novels that got several one stars when the only thing released was the prologue...I pretty much stopped looking at ratings.

 

I just read the reviews with little consideration for the ratings.

 

*Base on translation done/speed
If it's good but it's translated once every year it will still suck unless you pile 100+ everytime you'll read...
*Rating doesn't really matter much since it's flawed...
*Just read what you like. Drop if it's boring.
