I'd like to argue on your point. Monopolies have that have full control over a product still have ads to improve public image. Arguably, public image is still crucial if they want to make money.
(Example: Qi having bad public image made many people drop the novels that they read due to the fact that do not like Qi.)

Nope, not needed. But the thing is, J-Novel isn't totally writing this to garner support in case they DMCA. Nope, JNC is writing in regards to Roxism's service. And their points are as follows:

- Laughably Overpriced to those who haven't "donated"
- Cruddy translation quality

If official translations can guarantee far better service over these two points, then seeing 'David' take a defiant stand just to "stick it to the man" is not something to applaud.

Plus, who pays for fanfiction anyway? I can definitely say that I haven't seen a cent of money for my stories.

To be fair i also feel insulted that roxism give a label of fanfic for something he didnt own. Its like i google translate one piece manga and change the cover to doujinshi and sell it to you with a rip off price.

Actually, Youtube are only allowed to taken down videos that's reuploaded to Youtube. So if say, the writer is write at Syosetu and the reuploader also reupload at Syosetu then Syosetu is allowed to take them down. If it's uploaded to other website, the author himself is the only one allowed to take them down.
So in a clean legal battle, Roxism will win, but if the author himself apply a DMCA for any translated version of his work, even the WN, then the author will (generally) win. The key is whether the author really try to take it down or not (and in case of asking the bigger company to take them down need an OFFICIAL statement from the author that he allow publisher x to take his translated free content down)
