Not to be mean or anything, but grammar school is a must(or at least schooling in grammar) if you want to be an editor. Otherwise, you're going to be fumbling around with basically everything that's needed out of an editor.
Not really. If you edit only your 1. Language and you've read enough published good books you really don't need a grammar school or sth like that unless you're stupid. Obvious focus on enough and good published books
When I was trained to become a sworn translator, grammar was secondary. The only thing that must be kept in mind is mistake on translation. Legal document was never a joking matter. But I guess the standard between translator and editor are different considering the fact that these two are completely different beings.
I was a professional editor. You do need to know language, grammar, writing styles and techniques, time management skills, editing techniques and people and negotiating skills. Other things as well but I won't go into all that. This is to be a professional editor though. The further up you go, the more you will need to acquire more corporate skills.
As stated, this guide is not a replacement for Grammar Lessons. This is just to help those focus on some key aspects necessary for starting your path as an editor.
