Discussion Automatic Qidian E-book maker (EPUB)

So, I always read novels on my phone. For the qidian ones, I use their android app. But I don't like the night mode on the app. I like using another e-book reader available for android (Moon+). So I thought of writing a python script which given a book id of a novel from qidian will fetch all available chapters and automatically create an ebook (EPUB format).

I wanted to share it here. But before I do so, I just want to know the legality of the issue. I intend this for personal use only and not to create and distribute ebooks without permission. But will I face any legal issues if I post this? Looking at the bad history of Qidian I'm not so sure. If it is not a problem, then I'll share the link to the files.

Shouldnt be any legal troubles. You're just giving the means to copy the books, not distributing the books themselvf.

 

you arent allowed to spread pirated content on these forums, im sure there are other places that would want them though.

But it's still in beta
But it's pretty great

 

He's not spreading pirated content tho, he's just sharing a script that does that. Idk if it's in the gray zone in forum rules, but i'm pretty sure noone got in trouble for making scripts to bypass their ads, which is nearly the same

Do it, since it is free to acces on their site, you would just give people acces to PDF's without actually doing piracy.
Qidian has done far worse than what you plan to do.
Theres no money you would gain from this at all, only hurt Qidian a bit.

Might depends on whether you just do the free chapter, 'locked' chapters or premium chapter as well.

Free would have least problems
Locked is harder to say
Premium is what they probably would get really mad at

 

there is no problem is posting script itself but if you made epub and distribute it or share links of epub with the general public that would be a problem.
There will also be a problem if many readers use that script and it will affect qidian site views but it's not for you to worry about.

 

Can it open unlocked chapter that need diamond to open? If can't then It's not enough to reach the APEX!

 

It can only get the free chapters. I'm still not sure about posting it publicly. I did send a few in PMs.
