We can also use blood of others to do magic for us right? Ahem *extracting blood from others* ahem.

Beside magic system and breeding pits, this would affect society's social standing with there being a tangible proof of genetic superiority. Besides a simple purity thing there's be actual breeding programs as well as handling of fallen mage families. Perhaps they'd accept fallen family as servants instead of hunting them down for storage or that they'd still be on the kingdom's payroll as not to lose them to other countries.

Blood God religion. Hah. Throw that religion into the dynamics. Or perhaps there's opposing theocracy that sees blood as tool or some God granted that power later in history and is not regarded as a basic foundation for the world.

I think the biggest question is... What can blood do outside a human? If it needs to be in the veins to work, why is it, and can it be sidestepped? I'm guessing that's the biggest area of research for mad scientists; recreating magic outside living things. Also... Do animals have magic blood too? Can you make pig to human transfusions?

Can you use someone else's blood for, for example, sacrifice rituals?

Note that people living at very high altitudes get like, more blood? So some sportspeople go there to train (irl). There's also using your own blood out to put it in again when you need more of it, I think some people chest like that irl.

Finally, as others mentioned, light should give you access to the full spectrum. Gamma rays can cause cancer, or straight up kill people (radiation poisoning). Another use; you could bend the wavelengths of light, shifting colours. Thus, you d be able to see things from outside the visible spectrum, thus getting infrared radiation. This should be among the easier manipulations of light, so thermal vision should be like a noob spell (you're just lightly tweaking incoming rays, without even having to bend them), maybe even easier than the simple lightbulb spell.

magic cant manipulate within living bodies so no healing magic basically the blood of the person will counter the magic of others sort of like an evolutionary shield

they haven't yet devolped a ability to seperate blood types into a different components but thanks for an instresting plot idea . I think it would be similar to how you cannot seperate a blood type AB into type A or Type B, but just a rumor of that would lead to intresting directions

As for the rock thing, was just using it as an example for simple round number, would need to nerf that

water can manipulate the vapors, air can manipulate the not vapors depending on how they can achieve the same results

I am honestly stuch with the metal and earth conundrum and I am just going to go with some hand waving

there are some magic beasts but most are ordinary animals . was going to do some kind of doping thing but it would most likely be in some sort of tournament arc becuase unless you grew up in high altitudes that blood count increase is only temporary

First I honestly had no idea that you can transfuse blood from an animal to a person , is that even possible?
second blood needs to be transfused so no sacrfice ritual kind of things.
third :they are not as advanced as us so they don't know the spectrums of light, they can only manipulate what they know which is the visible spectrum

Purebloods would probbably want to live on as high a mountain as possible to increase blood wich would look like wuxia sect superficially.

Religion is comlicated and dangerous to seriously discuss just make beastpeople . Have beastpeople be an experiment of breeding humans with magibeast to increase physical ability and regeneration of blood but they have increased mental instabilityas a side effect

Yeah, that is something to think about carefully. Do you want magic to be able to do things that muscle can't do? Or do you want it to be a shortcut that burns blood instead of fat?

Something to think about is how can you make money with magic and not put your life at risk.

Do really skilled light magic users go into theatre? Using illusions to make a more spectacular show? What about fireworks?

Do air magic users get into music or hired to help project voices across crowds? Can air magic be used for sounds? Maybe they are good endurance athletes since they manipulate the air they are breathing to be thicker when they are struggling and thinner when they are training? So messengers or something. Maybe they do that for their mounts.

Do water elemental people get into fishing or sailing? Pushing boats or just sensing fish? Can people use their affinity to replace sight to some extent? Or maybe they brew alcohol and instead of distilling the alcohol they simply pull the water out.

Maybe earth magic users go into sculpting and architecture. Can they merge rocks together? This could be a stronger substance than concrete. Should your "medieval" technology be comparable to the middle ages?

Maybe farms are like our modern farms with cooperating mages running the farm rather than family's doing hard labor? The earth mages can plant seeds and turn weeds into fertilizer pretty easily. Water mages irrigate or dry the land. Maybe the earth mages also dry the land? Light mages may work in green houses to grow plants year round? Or just control the amount of light they get for best production. Air mages can increase the level of CO2 near the plants and increase their growth.

If magic is common then it will not make sense for it to only be applied to battle. It makes a lot of sense to have a few powerful mages replace a large team of workers in a field to have more military might.

Perhaps if they use blood in the smithing process grants the metals some resistance to manipulation. And going on that, blood wards painted on to walls, or near the end of pitched battles the blood from your enemies basically grant your armour immunity until its dried out and cracked off.

was going to have royalty and the high nobility have the purest bloodline but due to inbreeding this causes genetic disease to pop up, i had one royal had such weak bones that they can stand properly and had to carried around in a chair

actually I had thought of that. In a kingdom of mine the minimum for millitary warlocks was to have a purity of 7 , anything less was for civillian purpose such as construction, farming entertainment, blacksmithing, sailing and what not

There are no cells that would have 0 light. Objects emit light just for having a temperature above absolute zero.

Thinking about this, the society you are describing would likely have looked into the physics of electricity and magnetism much sooner than ours did, since they can directly manipulate light.

Also, what can fire magic do? Can they expand the amount of flame present without using a fuel source? Can they only move existing flames? If they have to use their environment for flames then the fire magic may only be useful for non-tactical applications. Not a whole lot of fire in a typical battlefield. Maybe coupled with water magicians they heat and cool stone walls during sieges?

again ,these people are not that advanced to know that.

they can manipulate the flames to become large or hotter, in a way their blood becomes the fuel. a spark should be enough they can eithier gradually or rapidly enlarge this spark.
in a siege not so much but in the field or raiding such as cavalry charges or ambushes

Why don't they know that? They are literally able to interact with light. What would happen is you would put one of them in a dark room and then they would still sense the presence of light.

Unless they can't sense their element are restricted to manipulating things in their sight. Is that a restriction? Does it apply to all magics if it is?

If that is a restriction then the light mages should bend light going to their opponents eyes away and completely blind them/nullify magic. Or just surround their opponent with a bright wall so that they can only see like a foot away.

What is the distance of the inherent defense against magic? Can the inherent defense be overcome with burning more blood?

I can't remember if blood transfusions from animals was possible to do irl, but there's no reason why it wouldn't be possible in a fantasty setting. Take into account we have like 99% the same DNA as most animals, and like 70% with f*** trees.

Regarding thermal vision, it really should be easy to do. Take into account technology advances faster in things that are easier to handle, and they can handle light easier than us. They should probably know more about light than we did at the equivalent tech level. Take into account Newton already knew quite a bit about light, a long before industrialization.

Also, colour shifting should be among the easiest light magics to do, and of you simply colour shift more, you'd be able to see things beyond the visible spectrum. Far far easier than bending light. Shifting it too much should be harder, but getting thermal vision should be a piece of cake.

What are the limits of about 1 liter of blood when used in magic for each element it would give an idea of limit
Edit: do thinkabout it as it gives value to blood an averge human body has 8 liter or something

Well as has been said there are plenty of clever uses for all elements with low power cost (rupturing ear drums etc.) depending on context.

As for needing to use environmental sources for the elements being a disadvantage to fire users in particular, maybe make fire elemental blood more flammable... Prick a finger and use friction of snapped finger or something to ignite (maybe require a bit of time/focus to "concentrate" the blood to increase the flammability before it leaves the body so they're not all human powder kegs making bloody battle fields into seas of fire.)

"Cheats"/training could be focused around increasing the width of veins, power of heart to "push" the blood/Mana for high power/rapid consumption... Bone marrow density/transfusions for faster recovery....

Also picturing some kind of mad scientist's experiment with tons of spliced in blood vessels, clad in living thigh bones (best blood factory in the body if memory serves)..two or more hearts so they could even have a false mortal wound.

System has alot of good possibilities.
