"Such an unusual name..." I ate a bit of it and my eyes opened wide. "I... Ought to say the name is fitting, but I am not sure you will get many returning customers out of it.

"I am afraid I am not a great specialist in sweets, so my knowledge on it might be limited, but I believe adding some ground herbs might be helpful in mitigating the sweetness as right now it is too... Overwhelming."

"I will try to find it, though I ought to admit the atmosphere is vastly different from what I am used to, as well as to what I was expecting.

"I certainly did not expect someone with such manners in here, nor someone that could bake sweets, it seems I am still much naive in the ways of the world."

 

Arawn looks crestfallen at her statement, before clenching his fists dramatically.

"If this doesn't work, then I don't know what else would," he cries out, extracting another package of gingerbread. "My ever-popular signature gingerbread: Granny Gene's Gingerbread!"

OOC: Oof, tough crowd. That kid must be a snack expert in disguise.

 

"Thank you again, Arawn," he said as he accepted the cookie, eagerly taking a bite of it.

"New? You could say...there's been quite the development..." Ryul wasn't sure yet if he wanted to tell Arawn, especially with a stranger in their presence.

Ryul chuckled, "I'm sorry, it must be a bit disorienting for you. Arawn has a passion for baking, and, for myself, I'm more of a scholar than an adventurer. I used to study quite a bit when I served a lord back in The Empire."

His eyes went distant for a bit before they refocused, "I'll be honest. I'm quite surprised to find someone so well-mannered as yourself entering this kind of establishment."

 

"Woo-hoo! A new day, a new story!"

Elaine barges into the tavern, heading for the counter, waving to a few people on the way in.

"Yoohoo, Arawn, Ryul, nice to see you two...Oh, a newcomer? Umu!"

 

"I... Apologize? Did I say anything I shouldn't have?" Was it a mistake to give those opinions? I suppose I never talked directly to a chef, so maybe the method of feedback they are used to receiving is different from the method their employees are used to hearing.

Maybe I should refrain from giving my opinions on it? But then what would be the point of asking for feedback... I am not sure I understand. "Then this one..." I took a bite of it and... "It is tasty, and the texture is good too. I am afraid I am not used to other sweets that are derivative of gingerbread so I can not give appropriate feedback based on other products on the market, but it is not a product I would be against eating again in the future."

[OOC]She has no clue on how to prepare any actually, but she ate a fair amount of them and has some contact with high class sweets.

She is mainly saying what she thinks based in comparing to what she is used to tasting though, it doesn't necessarily mean she disliked them. It's mostly her own misunderstanding of thinking you want feedback of a market product instead of wanting to know rather she liked it or not.[/OOC]

I suddenly turned and jumped near him. "You served a noble!? That is incredible! Dad has been working so...

"My deepest apologies, I have shown something unsightly." I made a curtsy to him before continuing. "It is just such a rare occasion to see someone with direct connections with nobility, that I couldn't help wondering just what could someone in such high position be doing in... This place."

"Rigël, pleased to make your acquaintance." I made a curtsy to the woman that came in.

 

"Likewise, the pleasure is all mine. I'm Elaine!"

Elaine stretches out her right hand.

"Looking forward to working with you!"

 

Hand...? But we got no deal done yet. And working on what? Did I miss any signs? I saw none though, she couldn't have sent that many ever since she entered.

I extended my hand and grasped hers. "Let the gods bless all our future business together."

 

"Hello Miss Elaine, nice to see you as well," Ryul greeted.

"I do hope all is well with you."

Ryul's smile froze as he heard the last part of her statement. It's true how it can be quite odd for someone who used to be so high up in society to have fallen so far down.

"It is quite alright, Miss Rigël," he accepted her apology.

"There were some circumstances that forced me to leave my former position and The Empire entirely. Hence, why I find myself here in Nagrand. At the Adventurer's Guild." His smile stiffened a little as he recalled his unpleasant past.

 

"Yatta! Now I'm going to go find something to do...I heard that they're looking for a crest for a certain gourd, heh heh..."

The girl smiles michievously.

Elaine coughs.

 

His expression seems quite troubled, "It seems my blunder was bigger than I first realized, I have no excuses, I truly apologize." I made a slight bow to him.

I suppose it would be way too much luck to find someone still in active contact with nobility over here, I shouldn't get my hopes up like that.

"Oh yes, this is related to the newspaper, correct? It is a shame I have no artistic abilities for that might be a great way of getting into contact with the local nobility.

"I truly wish you the best Ms. Elaine, it's not everyday that such option appears."

 

"Hmm? You're looking for connections?"

The girl tilts her head, curious.

 

"Oh, hello Elaine. It's nice to see you again," Arawn greets. "Do want some sweets?"

Arawn beams at the passable(?) grade from the girl.

"I'll be sure to improve my skills," he states happily. "Would you be willing to taste them again then?"

"Hm? What sort of development?" Arawn questions.

 

Ryul looked at her with concern in his eyes. Is she coming down with something?

"It is quite alright. Please, you do not have to apologize. It seems I have not entirely gotten over my past, and my expression must have shown this." Ryul waved off her apology.

"Hmm...I might possibly tell you some other time, Arawn." Ryul deflected the question.

 

"Well... alright then," Arawn accepts Ryul's deflection unquestioningly, choosing to munch on another piece of gingerbread.

 

"Isn't it normal to wish for connections? One should always try to have close relationships with the ones with decision power, shouldn't they?"

"Of course, I would be glad to help to my utmost capability, Mr. Arawn."

"Then I only wish you the best of futures, Mr. Ryul.

"The past is... A chain that binds us and stops our bodies from moving towards the future... Or so it was said by a certain author." It is a very awful truth though.

 

"Well, that's true, but one shouldn't depend on those connections too much. The ones that decide might not always do the best for everyone."

Elaine coughs again.

 

"Thank you for the well wishes, Miss Rigël."

Ryul stroked his chin in thought, "How very insightful of a phrase. I have to agree considering my circumstances."

The half-elf nodded on as he listened to the others chat in conversation with one another, taking a more passive role.

Concern rose to his eyes yet again as Miss Elaine did seem like she was indeed coming down with something.

 

"One can never achieve what is best for everyone however? It is best to prioritize getting the best for yourself without angering the ones surrounding you instead, isn't it? One can't profit if others aren't at a loss.

"And it might be for the best to get those coughs checked with a priest miss Elaine... You never know when they are more than what you expected them to be." I should stop getting gloomy over this already... It's a bother.

"It is my pleasure Mr. Ryul." I made a small curtsy in reply.

 

"Thanks for the concern, and it's been a pleasant talk. I should go now, those quests won't do themselves."

Elaine bows to the group, and then left again.

 

"Ah, I should be departing myself. I hope to catch a certain someone at work today."

Ryul also bowed to the group as he said his goodbyes, "Goodbye Arawn. Farewell Miss Rigël, it was a pleasure meeting you. I hope all goes well."

He left the Tavern with the same smile he entered in with.
