Finally going to write a story (I swear on the God of Light Novels) . Please help me pick out the system of the world in my story. Your Options are: 1. Spirits- People can make contract with spirits. 2. Swords and Magic. ( Fantasy) 3. Mythological - All the stories on earth about the Gods and Devils is real 4.Other. I need you. This may be my only motivation to write a novel.
Spirits(used for magic) and Sword. Mythological( Gods and Devils ) can be used as a titles when some one reach a certain level.
Definately 2 for me. Not really a fan of contracted spirits, MC is almost always an idiot who just happened to get contracted with a spirit king or w/e name they use for it for no good reason. If you do choose 1, I suggest you let all spirits start out weak and grow in power. Be careful about how you let them grow in power, defeating enemies as the only way to grow in power is just downright stupid unless you plan to make it a chaotic prehistoric world.
I like 3 but i don't want you to die researching it. There's some conflicting datas about myth because reasons & it'll be hard deciding which to choose. I usually skip fight scenes so 2 look less appealing to me. Then again, magic is really loose term. Spoiler: helpful video on magic world building below is a playlist. The user below talks baout a lot of world building https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLNudWoRTw--26J1ObtJbqAOw5TvoY_rOO 1 will be interesting if the spirit have personalities so they can act cute, rebel, or even deceive the user.
Are we talking pixie or sentient spirits (think Navi from Ocarina of Time) with higher tier spirits and shit or like a contract with a king/queen. Sword and magic can be pretty broad as well with different ways to utilize magic. Most utilize elements of nature so I'll go option 4, read some of Ero Dungeon Evolution and it's not exactly an adventure type story... But I like the idea of being followers of the 7 Sins and Virtues. Sin - Envy, Gluttony, Greed, Lust, Pride, Sloth, Wrath Virtues - Charity, Chastity, Diligence, Humility, Kindness, Patience, Temperance
yes!! But this can also be mythological, thought it overlaps. Artemis is a goddess of hunt and virginity
If you're going to write a mythology-based novel I'd suggest limiting it to a maximum of one or two different systems like Greek and Norse. Otherwise there's the risk of it just becoming a clusterfuck, and ignoring the effort it would take to research, it would be hard for readers to keep up with all the gods and ruin immersion.
Ooh! Make it a gender bender! Then bring out a male love interest for the turned-female MC. Or have the main love interest be a gender bent person who used to be close to the MC as a man, but after after getting magically turned into a woman love blooms...assuming the MC is male in this case.
You could actually combine 1,2 & 3 if you do it like in Running Away From The Hero. Swords & Magic exist and are common. Spirits exist and people can make contracts. Gods exist, and they're real in a way, but they're not in the same world as people other than when summoned and under contract, essentially very powerful spirits in a way.
"Game obu Familia - Family Senki" Here ya go mate, maybe you'll like this. It has Cunning MC who'll do anything for his family and also contracted with 3 spirit kings. Short summary: They wanted to summon 4 heroes from another world ... UNFORTUNATELY They succeed(The MC along with his step-mother, and 2 step-sisters). 3 heroes and one anti-hero who likes working in the shade.
