Recommendations Realistic/Grimdark Isekai Novels

I'm looking for new works that are more like older Isekai works. Stuff like the older Isekai works. Stuff that deals with some of the more realistic implications of a person being transported and/or abducted to another world out of the blue.

 

How about Kuro no Maou and also author have similar novel too

 

I liked InuYasha and Fushigi Yuugi.

 

I think Grimgal is already depressing enough that I stopped watching it's anime after 4 episodes.
Overlord is dark with a gap moe comedy.
I really can't comment much about Re Zero.

Serious question though, are you looking for "Dark" story or you meant "Tragedy"?

 

If you want dark stuff check fanfics, for example naruto got some absolutely brutal stuff

 

I also like Isekai. Not only Japanese Novel Isekai, but also Chinese and Korean Novel.

If you are okay with RRL then maybe How to Avoid Death on a Daily Basis is something you might want to check out.

 

I think Dungeon Defense would fit what you're looking for.

It's one of the better light novels on the site and has an excellent translation.

The MC had an effed up family life and has to survive in a world as the weakest Demon Lord out of 72.

He's a lot like Lelouch from Code Geass because his powers are his intelligence and his words.

It's gets more twisted and darker as it goes on, but at the same time in some sick way it's also wholesome.

It's a twisted story about power, politics, and demons vying for power.

 

Dungeon Defense surely is what you're looking for

I only read the first 20 chapters, it is about a guy who got transported inside a dungeon with no skill or anything at the start so the first thing he needed to do is to survive and get out of the Dungeon.

How about The Second Coming of Avarice ? OR how about Dungeon Defense ?

I'd recommend some others but not sure where you draw the line... as the ones I'm thinking off are more light hearted but some still deal with a lot of realistic and cultural issues without it being too dark while other ones are dark but softened by light humor...

 

I guess he only wants to read a Japanese Novel.

 

Reverend Insanity, it's CN, but hey, the MC is a Transmigrator and then Reincarnatr, so it's technically Isekai (another world)

 

No such thing was specified, while japanese are known for their isekai, there are non-japanese isekai.

Ascendance of a Bookworm - It is overall light hearted, but it is one of the few isekai's where MC has a frail body and their power is killing them.

Tensei Shoujo no Rirekisho - Again, overall light hearted, but one where MC has no powers in a world of magic nor much control over her life. Her parents sell her out, and she is thrown around from place to place outside her control. While MC tries to bring some basic technology, it actually takes her years for the most basic stuff.

Apotheosis of a Demon – A Monster Evolution Story - The human race is overusing magic via sapplings which is their source, the MC is destroying them to reset the world back to normal. (Not only killing people directly but all those indirectly as civilization collapses). But again, I think it is fairly light hearted considering the theme.
