Question what is the first asian VRMMORPG novel???

    Hello everyone, i have a question here.

    A few minutes ago, i was surfing in NUF. There was a certain thread that interested me. In this thread, i saw titles like 'The Legendary Moonlight Sculptor' and 'SAO'. These two titles lead me to nine words :'VRMMORPG novel'. These nine words made me go deep in thought. A certain question popped inside my head, <INSERT THE THREAD TITLE HERE>

    I already searched with google, but i'm too unskilled to find the truth. I looked up in wiki, they say that 1/2 Prince was released in 2004, LMS' wikipedia article is weird, and they say SAO's webnovel was released in 2002. From these infos, i dare to say that SAO's the oldest(between the three).

    What i wish to know's do you guys know any older novel? Because apparently, directly inserting the thread title in google search didn't help me.

    If you want the very first one of all VRMMORPG novels, you won't find it. Most likely it was terrible, didn't sell well and has been buried under a trillion newer ones.

    Might not even be Asian for that matter.

    There exist another one with the name hack-somthing it's one of the oldest I know of.

    Not SAO. But only after SAO, that VR story plot been more famous.

    i will say it was the .hack//SIGN series the very first i have knoweledge on that genre.......after that it was probs LMS then SAO

    i don't think there was ever a monster rancher novel though? there was a manga however

    true, but i'm still curious nontheless. as the saying goes, curiosity created the cat

    i really forgot about this one, though it probably is the oldest

    like i said in my other comment, there's a manga of it. There's also an anime from 1999 with a sequel in 2000

    what i question is not strictly novel, it's actually on the VRMMORPG culture or smth, and maybe this is the answer. But is the setting in VRMMORPG? because i never played or watched it...

    If you ever heard about EC, i think it's one of the oldest Novel with said theme in my mind. Shame the translator didn't finish that one. I heard this one was written even when Nouru and shosetu wasn't as we know right now.

    Looking for your question I found interesting facts around VR. For your answer, it seems based on this virtual reality on fiction page , the first VRMMO was proyect .hack.

    edit: about the first virtual reality fiction, it seems that Laurence Manning "The Man Who Awoke" in 1933 was the first, .hack is the first VRMMO as far as I read.

    As far as I can tell, the very first VRMMORPG novels are the .hack series. The very first popular series was probably Legendary Moonlight Sculptor back in 2007. That series really set the trend going as far as I can tell. As for SAO, I don't think it was that popular until the anime adaptation blew up in 2012 I believe.
