I didn't know that was something that bad, though after thinking about it, it seemed normal for that kind of era. She does get outed in front of gu tingye the most huh:hmm:

Also I have a doubt, if gu tingye believes his mistress killed his wife, why is he not abandoning her yet? Is it because he loves her or because of her two children?

And also GTY wanting a noble as his proper wife made me think about how traditional he is, (it kinda felt like a reality check) and was kind of disappointed as well because I liked the fact that he was a rebel in those times.

Yes I think this is their first interaction where GTY notices her as a woman, being attracted to her alabaster neck and dimples. Previously the author has been at pains to stress GTY saw her as a child. Ming Lan would be between 14 and 15 years old now, nearing marriageable age for the times so I guess it's not inappropriate for GTY to start being attracted to her physically.

I will be interested to find out at which point Ming Lan becomes physically attracted to GTY. Up to now, she's always been in awe of him and finds him intimidating due to the six years or so age gap. I don't know if the awkward silence between them in Chapter 97 is sexual tension/awareness (at least on GTY's part) or awkwardness due to Ming Lan being caught out discussing GTY's private affairs or a combination of both.

GTY takes responsibility for his children which is why he doesn't totally abandon his mistress.

Basically Ming Lan called GTY out for being a hypocrite. He is a snob at the end of the day and wants to have his cake and eat it too. No wonder you feel disappointed in him but I think it's to show he's not Mr Perfect. GTY called Ming Lan out for faking being meek and demure when she's actually a risk taker and courageous.

I can only see this as a countdown to some drama in the future, if it is not handled properly...
I felt disappointed because he felt like a rebel, which I had never seen in other novels. Him being just like other people came as a reality check for me. That was what disappointed me, but yeah him not being Mr.Perfect is one of the reasons I like to read this novel :)

GTY is not only a snob, he's also petty lmaooo

If looking at it generously, he was warning Ming Lan to better hide her true self. But for those of us who view him less generously, he just had to have the last word over a little girl. He's def not perfect, which makes him seem quite human.

GTY's ability to hypocritically lecture at any given moment is his best character trait :blobsweat:

I had to re-read his last line a couple times because I couldn't figure out whether it was a compliment or insult. I feel like theres an teensy bit respect in there but im rly enjoying iampheng 's reading of it as him trying to get the last word over a little girl lol . He's so petty I love it.

I would say this chapter was the most cathartic of almost all the novels I have read till now. Husband gets beaten, mother-in-law gets beaten(verbally) and everyone gets their right desserts.

While I did feel happy, towards the end I felt a bit unsettled mostly because I wondered if all the wrongs I did in my life will catch up to me in the same way? Somehow that scared me a little. :blobsweat:

no, he's related to princess chick that had a son who liked minglan. they had all gone to a party together and everyone referred to eachother by family names. and because Wangshi was called sister by princess, minglan calls him uncle.

I'm... not going to explain all the stuff about him, he's showed up... A LOT here are the relevant chs.
ch 39-42: minglan's friend's getting married to GTY
ch 43: minglan helps her friend get out of an issue with GTY's mistress
ch 66: GTY confronting minglan about the broken engagement, at the party.
ch 73: GTY meets them at the temple

those are the meetings I can remember off the top of my head~ read them and remember~

who snitched about minglans pirate adventure to Old Madam? :hmm:
my bets on one of the maids, i wanna say Luzhi cuz we know nothing about her, but a Dangju or Xiaotao betrayal would hurt more

... that... was a very dramatic death.
also, this makes me indescribably angry and minglan's father all of a sudden. linshi murdered minglan's mother afterall. and he still favored her forever. i wish he'd get his, but it would bring the family to ruin

im just imagining.... sitting at ur grandmas deathbed whos been in a coma for like a week and all of a sudden she sits up and starts screaming about all of the vengeance she got and how she'll see ur grandpa in hell :blobawkward:

Minglan is so good at just avoiding drama like this isn't Her Grandma, she only got raided by pirates not involved in a rebellion. Its great that a novel where most of the intense action is happening somewhere Else, is still so riveting.

(On that note I hope everyone back at the Sheng house is OK, I will be sad if we get off screen deaths)

(is anyone else amused by how whenever ancient china sexuality is even kinda touched upon Minglans all "I am a Grown Woman, I Watched Porn one time" :blobjoy::blobjoy::blobjoy:)

When Minglan is more comfortable with her cousin's house than her own. Man. Dealing her sisters and courtyard politics of her family must be truly tiring. :sweating_profusely:

I really thought that minglan would spurt tea out like other anime characters when she heard gu tingye's name. I assumed it would be gu tingye when she ended up praising the general to such a high degree...:blobxd: This chapter was quite fun!

Rulan's sister was back when there was only one child so she had influence from grandma and possibly Sheng Hong as we instead of mostly just the mother.

Wang Shi also likely was acting different during the elder sisters early years, before the whole feud with concubine Lin started.

Probably something related to Madam Liang, her son and Molan's marriage, if I go by the spoilers. I read very, very vague spoilers so this just my speculation. :blobthinkingsmirk:

Edit: Also to the people who read spoilers, when and why do you read them? I mostly read them to find out if there are things I don't like in the novel before starting it and avoid reading spoilers after starting it so that my enjoyment is not reduced. Note that I try to not spoil myself heavily before starting anything.
