Signifying how precious it is without needing to give an exact measure? Vagueness is second nature to cultivation novels, after all.

What else would they use? Mililitres?

It's the equivalent to cups on a smaller scale just to get the right ratio

They might not have an exact measurement system in those cultivation worlds so they can only rely on counting drops

Considering the eras of said cultivation novels I don't think they were developed in some fields to name measures to liquids (and such) and perhaps that is why, I mean you know 'power means everything, and dog eats dog' and such lines, people are more focused on money and cultivation in such novels so I don't think they got the time to name another meaure while drops can do the business :hmm:

Because they like to get dropped. Someone has to get dropped, why not their liquids?

It’s easier to imagine a drop of water than 0.001 m^3 of water.

Probably because it's easier to give a notion of quantity to the reader with a drop than it is with an actual volume.

Like... Do you know how much is 5ml of water? I know I don't, is that a spoonful? Half a spoon? 1/4 of a spoon? A coffee spoon or a teaspoon?

Meanwhile, if someone says a drop of water I'll have a clear image in my head, so it makes more sense to use that.

Destroying cities or even a world with a punch is more annoying.
Or cover 3000 meters in one step. Makes for a spoil sport when playing hide and seek

On the other hand, meters, grams, seconds, and other forms of those SI units, in a setting standard measurement shouldn't be a thing. Hell, back then a bushel in one town wasn't equal to a bushel in another town.

Well, I don't think it's really a problem to have those in most novels... I mean, it's a suspension of disbelief thing, would you rather have the author create an entire new system of measuring time and distance (and then you'd need to memorize it if the author used it often), or would you rather have them just use what we're used to?

Weight can be handled with them using a scale I guess, but distance and time are really hard to deal with if you don't use the normal units we are used to.

why do we like to use drop to measure liquid?

Why do we like to use cun, chi, zhang and li to measure length?

why do we use Tael and catty to measure weight?

why do we use *yuan(元) to measure years?

Why do we use 一束香, 十二辰(时辰) to measure time?

Your asking this question is similar to why do windows use GiB instead of GB, even though they write GB but they calculate In GiB.

Because when you have a measurement system, it's hard to change it. Just like how windows and all other older software and operating systems refuses to move from GiB to GB. From 1024 to 1000, from 2^10 to 10^3.
