Ok, so I write this thread after reading Transmigrator meet Reincarnator and meet upon a particular event which is MC eat a sugar cane, munching it to release the juice inside and spat out the remains.

And that is exactly how I eat it, but I then remembered during my childhood that some old men, friends and even my parents that they eat it without spatting the remains. :blobfearful:

It is actually ok if I and they just have a different opinion in eating it, but then they actually look at me like a weirdo for spatting out the remains. :blobastonished:

Is it just me that is weird for not swallowing the remains or those people lied to me and secretly throw away the remains? I really can't force myself to swallow the remains as I feel that they are too fibrous and hard. :blobflag::blobflag:

(The sugarcane that we eat is the green/yellow one, as it is the softest kind that I can remember and not the red one as it is too hard and can only be consumed by turning it into juice)

I have never eaten sugarcane, so I’m definitely not qualified to answer this question. Even so, I’d guess that maybe it’s preference, the same way some people peel grapes and others don’t?

But grapes are soft, so the difference between spatting and swallowing it together is not that big

Maybe apple is the better comparison, but I still feel that the difference isn't as big as sugarcane

can you imagine the fibronousity? :blob_coughblood:

It's more like eating a bubblegum and swallowing them when you're done chewing (except sugarcane is edible). After a sugarcane's water is all chewed out, what remains is this really tough and chewy stuff that won't dissolve in your saliva nor could get broken apart by chewing. If I bite a particularly big chunk of sugarcane, trying to swallow it would just make me gag.

I mean the sugar cane I get (I think it should be the same kind as the one you described) is super fibrous and like I feel like it’s hard to swallow...
But I’ve definitely swallowed a bit before. It just feels kinda odd to swallow it since it’s kinda scratchy and really tough.
I feel like I’d admire anyone who’s able to swallow it with a straight face...

Depends on the age of the sugarcane. Some remains are soft and chewy and you can swallow it sort of like bamboo. And some remains are never to be swallowed.

I spit out the remains, its how my parents and everyone around me eats it. The type of sugarcane we eat has remains that are pretty tough so I never thought about actually swallowing them.

I've swallowed the wood before, it hurts.

I like sucking the sweet juices, suck it all up and spit out the wood.

    Yup sugar cane.

Throughout my life, this is prob the first time I've ever heard a person swallowing sugar canes.

Unless you are a panda, you prob want to spit those hard fibers out....

I have been eating sugarcane for years. My parents and grandparents all used to chew and spit the remains out, just like how they draw the sugarcane juice out. I haven't seen a human swallowing it, it's just dry and extremely hard to swallow. It's scratch and undoubtedly it has to harm the throat unless you're a cow/buffalo. It's a common practice to add sugarcane remains to their fodder because it's fibrous.

I don't know how they actually managed to swallow it, but they actually did it

I try to eat as small piece as possible but I still can't swallow it

In my place we also got device like that as 2 rollers placed vertically and the merchant slide the sugarcane between the 2 rollers so the juice is squeezed out.

Eating the cane fiber can help you poop but to much can cause diarrhea so it’s up to you

If you boil it you can eat it the remains. As for raw, ive seen people do either. Im more used to just eating it all. Its good fiber.
