I was wondering if anyone doesn't read a novel but then dropped it because they started to not like the translator or translator that picked it up? If so why? Besides the obvious pay wall reason.

Only if the translations get worse than MTL... then I simply proceed to MTL the novel. :blobpeek:

Monster factory was a good one but then the fire natio--the translator disappeared, then it got picked up by a translator that don't want to heed people's advice of getting a proofreader/editor, got dropped again then picked up but still need serious proofreading/editing before it becomes readable.

Not translators but there's one group that make me don't want to read in their web. Yes, I know I have several novels that has been picked up by that group in my reading list but I already stop read them a year ago.

Nah, there's no reason to ever drop a novel because of certain translators...

Well... maybe I can drop a few novels.

Ai-chan only read a few of the chinese novels on this site, and they're mostly girl novels. Ai-chan mostly use the Japanese novels highlighted here to read on syosetu but if the translation is passable, Ai-chan reads the translation, page views and all. If the translator changes for the worse, Ai-chan just reads at the source. Ai-chan will not read crappy translations that is no different from machine translation.

if the grammar and proofreading are bad/ nonexistant than it's easier to just go to the source and MTL. pretty sad when the MTL is easier to read and makes more sense than the translation.

    some translators have bad english
or they make the whole novel too English that I want to cringe.
in that case, I will drop the novel.
or if it's a novel I'm really interested in, I'll mtl

Rather than bad novels I drop bcs HORRID novels, but sometimes translators cut chapters too short like

I wait a week for 6 sentences thanks, I even forget the story reading such little material, I understand you want visitors to your site but come ON at least give a normal chapter every 2nd week ffs

Oh wow. I'm super surprised. I thought I would be attacked. A novel I'm reading got picked up by a group that tends to be super aggressive in looking for AdSense. So I don't think I will read it. To MTL I go. Interesting to know that I'm not alone.

I love rainbow turtle also Exiled Rebels scans are a another group I like.

Anything by Asianhobbyist.com, I don't read. The site owner is a money grubber :blobunamused:

Also, too much BL on the website.
Ahh splitting chapters into parts but releasing the parts at once. Why not release the parts across a few days like normal people?:blobunsure:

I've read your posts before, and they never made sense to me. I only realised a month ago that AsianHobbyist was you. So it's all indirect advertising. Feel kinda dumb for not connecting the dots sooner.....

Even if I am tongue in cheek most of the time. What I say is very clear.
Sorry, but even a 5 year old would understand what I said in this thread.
I simply laid out valid criticisms Asianhobbyist.com has gotten.

    Keep drinking that koolaid.
Unlike you, I dont need to result to petty insults and I can laugh at even myself.
    Cheers!

Yes, I have dropped novels that:
    1) Started being MTL
    2) No editing to the point it might as well be MTL
    3) When translator puts stupid things at end of sentences all the time, like "na" at end of every other sentence. I have no problem with them doing onichan or noona or etc, I am even fine with a desu here and there. But if we are talking about the MC's thoughts ending all the time with things like "na", that gets irritating.
    4) When author decides they are going to be more authentic with names and decides to change everyone's name and most common terms we've read for hundreds of chapters. Names should be legible to English speakers, not "authentic" unless its really vital to the story. That doesn't mean I mind foreign names, but if someone is called Jeoiajain-jin-hja or Aosahiea. Please limit names to 2 vowels and easy to pronounce. And if every name in the story is changed there is no way I'm gonna remember them and it irritates every time I read it cause I have to do a double take on who this person is every time. Change 1 person's name? fine. change everyone's name and I'm lost.

I tell myself I'll write a code that auto swaps all the names and terms back to normal but been to lazy busy. So I just drop it promising myself to come back to it... someday...

Do you mean like the translator being a jerk on-line or in-person?

On the real though. This whole process isnt just translating. Your talking bout the whole package here. Translating, editing & proofreading.

Some people/groups just translate and that's cool.

Next level is where these people/groups have editors and other people to proofread.

But ain't nobody got time for that. Hence the fast food MTLs. And ey, sometimes them Translator chefs really don't give a good meal.
