We no longer have movie stars. Now we just have commercialized intellectual properties
He says Hollywood now sucks, I believe it has always sucked.
In the golden age, the artists were on slave contracts and tied to the studios and could be easily replaced.
Studios made the stars since they owned the movie theatres
These days, Studios own the in demand IPs eg Spiderman and Batman and can simply change the actors playing them. Actors have even less power now.
Huge conglomerates like Disney can pressure movie theatres to show their movies. I dont know how it works in the US, I know they are smarter about it but it is very obvious in India especially with companies like Yash Raj films that force theatres/multiplexes to show their movies.
I am sure people will show movies from Disney just not to get on their bad side since Disney movies are so big that you could get snubbed by Disney and not get allowed to show the next Avengers Blockbuster

    This line was great:

"Movies are now made for 16 years old and China"

i normally would disagree and say that oscar nominated movies aren't made for 16 years old and china, but then i remember that black panther is nominated for best picture

I dont think that it is necessarily a bad thing since we are getting fewer flops. Smaller studios can make a profit now.
One person can finance their movie on Kickstarter, I dont think it is all bad

Hollywood is a pretty big place. You get a lot of corporate cash grabs, but you also get a lot of passion projects. Robert Eggers, Denis Villenuelle, guillermo Del toro, and many more make movies that are vivid and thought provoking.

Tom Cruise and Keanu Reeves make popcorn flicks, but they are not worried about pushing the boundaries narratively, theyLook for ways to push the boundaries technically and to challenge themselves.

Even the marvel movies are an experiment on how to make a super long series of connected films. An experiment that worked.

In my opinion, these uninspired and dull movies that come out every year are just people who see the above mentioned successes and try to get the money that they want without understanding what makes it great.

I think you are overestimating Marvel movies. Even Tom Cruise and Keanu Reeves
They are not exactly good movies since they(Reeves and Cruise) are equivalent to the B movies in countries like Japan.
Marvel movies are just a well oiled mentioned when you are as big as Disney you can pressure theatres to show your movies

back on 90's studio like to force thing into PG 13 to attract wider audience lel
now this so not really surprise for me
    lil out topic
sadly people forget way before Black Panther there exist Spawn and Blade so lel
John Carpenter movie also suffer from critics but now lel it get praise some even get into benchmark such as The Thing

The Thing Prequel also suffer lel cuz at the end studio decide to change practical effect into full blown CG another kaboom
there also Weinstein thing~ only remember The Crow sequel get butchered turn into mess~ oh there also All Men Like Christine or something~ a movie which won several movie festival delayed realed on theater for 7 years... amazing isn't it?

Yeah, the scale is very different. Disney is too big. Their power is too much. Which guarantees a profit on all their movies
Just look at Superman, they made back their budget in product endorsement and product placement(eg Superman drinking a coke in the movie) before the movie was even airing in theatres.
If DC can do that with Superman, then Disney can do a lot more

I already hate Bollywood as there's very low originality and most of the movie scripts are just copied from Hollywood and oh god the dubbing is just plain horrible specially for movies having r18 content ughhhh. At least most of the movies produced in Hollywood have good plots.

I am not a very picky person so I’m more pre-disposed to liking a movie whether or not they are good. So I won’t argue with you on the quality.

But Tom Cruise has done stunts and set pieces that were so risky, he had to fire his producers and his safety consultants in order to get his vision to come into reality. not every actor can do that on a big budget film, but you can’t deny that the passion is there.

As for studios forcing their direction on the films, that has always been a problem. One of Orson Welles’ films was hacked to pieces while he was away on vacation. I won’t say to vote with your wallet, but I would suggest that great movies come out every year. As long as people like you and me support them, then the director will be able to take more risks on their next film, and then some more. As long as they make the money, they have more clout with the investors and the executives.

Tom Cruise and stunts? Its hard to not see him as a primadonna.
It is one thing if Tom Cruise is an expert martial artist like Jackie Chan
Does Tom Cruise know more than the experts? I will beg to differ
Tom Cruise is just a powerful Hollywood star that always gets his way.
I am not saying the movies are not enjoyable but they are certainly not some standard of technical excellence like you are lauding them to be
Take The Departed, an Oscar winning movie that was just a ripoff of an Hong Kong movie series: Infernal Affairs

I grew up on Bollywood movies so I wasnt aware they were all Hollywood remakes, even Sholay was a remake although looking deeper the story is actually originally Japanese by the great Akira Kurosawa( cant believe I remembered his name as Kurosaki)
My point is that being remakes was not bad but when they started removing musical item numbers like in Wake Up Sid, it became pointless to watch Bollywood when it has lost its distinctive Indian flavor: like the dancing.
It is simply better to either watch the Hollywood one or the Japanese original.
I was incensed when Sunny Leone was used in a movie, with so many Indian ladies even Miss World and Miss Universe winners they could not find one from India but had to bring in a Canadian porn star based in the US.
I was incensed but got embarrassed when I discovered that she is of Indian descent....:sweating_profusely:

Katrina Kaif was acting for years and unable to speak a word of Hindi since she scouted from the UK
So it is not really a surprise. When you learn about sound engineering ( Another Miss Oh Korean drama did a great job of it)
You learn that dubbing is not an issue, but we just have really bad dubbing as the standard.
Heels hitting the floor and other sounds are usually added in post production. Dubbing is used in everything

Indeed but even more horrible is the language dubbing (English to Hindi). You see if it's a regional language from India then the dubbing to Hindi is so brilliant that it's mind blowing but if it's English to Hindi dubbing then bam it's so bad that it's mind blowing.

I dont get it. Why is English to Hindi bad?
Is it because you can understand both languages so it is more obvious to you that they are speaking a different language?
Or is it that they use big stars instead of trained voice artists/ seiyus?
