So, I’ve seen a lot of advice on news programs for avoiding infection, preparing food, etc. but few choose to be infected with things.

    1) if you are overweight now is a good time to lose some but not all of it. Being overweight makes your lungs work harder, and this messes with your lungs. Having some fat for energy reserves is better than bone thin.

    2) stop smoking/vaping for a bit for the same reason. Again it won’t lower your chances of getting it but might help with severity.

    3) if you can afford it check for preexisting conditions that might be messing with your immune system with blood tests.

Most of it is simple common sense, be fairly healthy with good lung function and your chances of getting it drop and if you do get it you are less likely to have it severely.

disclaimer: not a doctor, and wouldn’t be yours anyway, you have shit for brains if you believe otherwise!

Doesn’t help if someone in your home gets it or you also don’t wash your hands etc. Then there’s the question of infected people touching the food, Amazon delivery boxes, mail, etc.

Lots of advice on trying to avoid infection but some will be infected anyway despite precautions.

This has the potential to be about half as bad as the Spanish Flu which wiped out 3-6% of the worlds population 100 years ago. While it’s still far off there are things you can do.

Worst case in being healthier beforehand is actually being healthy even if it all burns out in a few weeks.

Wow nice picture, isn’t there a gap in the forehead though? Honestly I think I’d rather go for those surgical mask w/ goggles it’s a lot cheaper haha.

Some people actually opt for swimming goggles and 3M masks. As long as you are able to cover up mucous membranes like the eyes, ears, nose and mouth, you can prevent the risk of being infected while outside.

Frankly I don’t think people are panicked outside of China. There’s a good chance it will burnout like SARS, but also a decent chance it will spread like the flu and cycle through regularly.

Most people aren’t in danger if they are young and healthy, just like the flu. How many people on this forum are healthy though? Getting healthier won’t hurt your chances with this or a regular flu.

I’ve worked on a project (Sudbury Neutrino Observatory) that had clean suits later in it and had some briefs on it. Having a clean suit isn’t a catchall. How you take it off, isolate the suit from the clean area etc matters.

I think a lot of people underestimate contamination after wearing protective gear.

Again, even if there’s a full outbreak most people will be fine.

Really depends what happens over February. The thing is we have the ability to basically prevent things like the Flu and Malaria but not the will. 1,000,000 die every year from Malaria.

This is solvable in the long term even if it does outbreak...if people are willing to pay the cost associated with it.

A lot of these do not help prevent infection. It's better off to put effort into not getting sick than reducing the "severity". And the even bigger irony of it all is that this WOULD help... in surviving the anti-viral drug's side effects lol. One of the side effects of some classes of anti-virals is reduced breathing ability.

nCoV won't be like the flu. It's too lethal and virulent to hide.

That's crazy, how does one need to properly take it off?
That's good to know, I think we outsiders should take precautions for the future now, if it can happen in China it can happen where you live, if not this then maybe something else in the future
