It's back to full-on mech design now though. Besides, what do you think mechs are? They are weapons of war. A mech designer who has never experienced war is like a carpenter who's never lived in a house. And it's not like he doesn't get involved with mech design in the military. He does. It's just without the aid of the system, and he has to do it in field conditions, and not for commercial purposes. If your interest is really in the craft of mech design, rather than the "I've got a system that allows me to be OP in <whatever field> and show my results measurably", then I don't understand why you have a problem with it.

This is not a story about a mech design system. This is a story about a mech designer, a character-driven story. Ves, as a character, is more than just the mech system he uses to design mechs. And the war arc shows that, because it separates him from the system. He grows in other ways, besides just trying to game the system. He has to try and refine established mech designs in the middle of a campaign, has to field-strip and repair mechs on the battlefield, has to learn how to manage mech technicians and mentor junior designers, has to analyse flaws of enemy mechs in battle, and has to develop insights into his design philosophy (spirituality) through mad scientist field experiments that will eventually bear fruit in later mech designs. And he also becomes increasingly cruel and war-hardened, which is interesting as a character. Not a hero. A magnificent bastard who poses as a hero.

I can understand how you feel though. Hail the King wad a good diablo isekai story which was fun that I couldn't believe it's chinese. Then it starts adding stupid chinese tropes and turning to reduduntant xianxia story.

I don't understand how chinese authors mind work. They write good stories without any relation with xianxia. Then starts adding it out of nowhere. Rush ending is much better than prolong stories getting away from original setup.
