SOURCE 13: https://twitter.com/JackieLastra/stat... Devs of the Game "AI: Somnium Files" caught wind of a review bomb to their game and reached out to twitter for help. After one individual came forward and gave a plausible reply, claiming the review sites failure of a system. It was revealed a while latter by another individual that that person was the true perpetrator of the act in question. Being brought to light that his investigative actions were a lie, the individual in question openly admits to the act of review bombing the game. With his admission on Discord and Twitter. As the whole situation settled, the individual who committed the act, then went on a tirade of why he did what he did. Claiming it was in response to how his character crush was treated in the games story. Having developed a personal attachment to the Character "A-Set", he hated the game for how the story developed and turned the character he grew attached to in a direction he claimed as "utter nonsense." In response to his actions the Twitter community went up in arms and questioned his behavior and logic. With fans of the game, pointing out that for a fictional character, he went out of his way to commit malicious acts towards the games developers. Leading that what he did, won't change the games story either.
I think that there is more to it. He was most likely very frustrated about failed communication with the community of the game, as he mentioned he was banned or sth, so I believe that plus the pent up negative emotions from not having anyone that supports his view resulted into such.
Actually, the fact that all that was done by some random guy with personal issues is an even bigger indictment of Metacritic than if it was some hacker out to prove a point.
It's not that rare actually. And I don't think it's much dumber to have a crush on a fictional character it's impossible to ever hook up with, than it is to have one for a celebrity you have a 0.00001% chance to ever hook up with.
It parallels the guy who married his video game character, but at least his personal attachment didn't harm others
Haven't even heard of that title, yet I'm inclined to say better than writing fanfic. Mad props to the dude, don't know I'd much like him but I can tell I respect his attitude. P.s: Metacritic's sole use is to dump on refunded the game, not for actual reviews.
Maybe that's the problem? He might have had one bad experience and went all creepy incel to become obsessed with a fictional character. OR.... He's just a giant creepy edgelord who needs some serious help returning to reality.
Except from what I saw in those sources he never said it was the reason he review bombed the game, the given reason was that he wanted to show how bad metacritic can be and he just happened to go with a game he already hated but also importantly a game with a low amount of ratings, making it easy to review bomb. Sure he could be lying about it and it really being about the game, but he could also just as well be meaning it. In either case it was a shitty move, though I find it ironic that the fan response to it was to flood the game with 10/10 scores, at that point you are just doing a reverse review bomb.
Did you watch the video? cause it was very concise and showed several of the douche's tweets where he goes on short rants about his waifu and how the game supposedly treated her and how he was QQing because his obvious obsession and wankery pissed off the discord channel he was a part of and got him booted. the given reason, while objectively true, was just a horrible failed attempt at a cover-up. If he wanted to just prove his point, any other game would have worked with some effort.
He simply needs a hug People brag about how they don't need anyone How they enjoy being lonely but this is just proof that it is all hogwash
Just because everyone is assuming that it was a cover-up doesn't mean that it is, it could be, but it irks me that everyone is so quick to judge it as proven when there is no actual proof of which was the true motivation, and again it was a shitty thing to do either way. Why would he even need a cover-up anyway?, he could have just avoided posting about it at all if all he wanted to do was review bombing it.
I guess his warped ego wanted to be publically known for being such a wanker? who knows what dwells in the mind of someone so obsessed with a fictional character that they'd review bomb a game and then publicly admit to it and rant about why they did it.
