I use Surfshark, since it was cheap and Nordvpn had a security breach when I was looking for a VPN. I don't know how it compares to others, but I do like how it has a Killswitch option, so you can have it turn off your internet connection if the VPN isn't active.

The only safe vpn are the ones you pay for. Everything else is your local red light district, you either end getting STD at the first try or on the nth. Basically just use any if you aren't ready to pay.

If your paying then Nord vpn

Edit : just search for best paid ones if you are willing to pay, I'm not sure of any personally other than Nord.

I'm using PIA which is paid. While they did get recently bought out they are still pretty transparent in their dealings so I'mma stick with them for now. If you're looking for a free vpn might I suggest protonVPN.

I've been using PrivateInternetAccess since 2016. I still have the 2 year $2.5/month subscription active, which is great for me since every time I checked the cheapest new subscription was a yearly one in the range of $3-3.5/month.

PIA's got a lot of great options and is compatible with pretty much all devices out there.
To be honest, I haven't really needed to use a VPN for anything in a while, yet I keep my subscription alive just in case. I might have let it lapse at some point if I didn't have the better price. But if I needed a new VPN again, I'd likely choose their again.

The only other VPN I've tested was HideMyAss, which I had for about two years prior to PIA.
They didn't have as many servers, and... I don't really remember - there's certainly a reason why I made the switch.

You can give this a read:
    https://torrentfreak.com/which-vpn-services-keep-you-anonymous-in-2019/
It's a year old article, but they should be making this year's verison soon.
They have quite a few separate (more recent) articles you might wanna check out before making your decision:

It was a hardware thing. One of the data centers was not secure. Leading to one server of many to being breached. They don’t own the data centers

I use nord but it isn’t like I’ve tried others and compared them. You can try and search reviews or basic info on some I guess.

I've been using IPVanish for years now. Allows multiple simultaneous connections on one account. I can use it on my desktop, laptop, and mobile. Comes with a private proxy. And has a decent amount of worldwide IP coverage that's easy to switch to to get past region restrictions. Used NordVPN for awhile. It was pretty damn good too. But it felt like I was paying more for less, so I dropped it.

Avira free 1gb monthly vpn. Can't change the country after selecting one without paying for it though.

Though if you aren't ready for advertisement spam that they have for getting you to sign up to a monthly plan for antivirus etcetera, I suggest you don't use it.

    I use AirVPN.

Not all VPNs are equal. Before I recommend any VPN provider, it's important that you let us know what you want to use it for. Wanting to spoof your location to circumvent geoblocking or download some torrents of copyrighted material have much looser requirements than if you plan to publish subversive news articles in a country that doesn't have freedom of speech.

get a server, you can get a cloud server to host your vpn if you are rich, cents OS is an popular OS for clouds.
you can get an SSH account for VPN, it's most budget options I can think of. my sponsor bbis.us provides a good server to start with, if it's daily needs.
If your in china, and you need gaming, tencent 加速器.
if you Have a wordpress sites running, you can ask your server provider for port 21 or port 22 for FTP or SFTP, for what I know VPN is just TCP or UDP.

Edit: I do not approve all above recommendation by previous posters VPN, they are ether ripping you off or CIA/NSA stilling you personal information. If you need privacy, try ToR.
If you need privacy in china, try ToR with MEEK, MEEK are tor relays that have not be listed. essentially hidden guard nodes.

Do not believe in ToR is not safe, tor is SAFEST, other criticism are all payed writers by VPN company.

Guard nodes only change once every few months I think, and those are highly trusted nodes. So I recommend you not to login anything. and Please change to an new accounts/personality every time you change a guard nodes.
