It feels nice to be a player instead of a GM again, it's so much less work~

Though I do love GMing too, but... Time... >.>

Oh well, still a bit funny for me to see how my habit of writing excessively long stories didn't die this easily~

Honestly, I think roleplaying games getting their own tab was what killed them...

I remember time when first thing you saw when coming to games tab was orange wall of "Adventurers guild". Everyone saw it at once, everyone interested was 2 clicks away from joining. Nowadays its hidden and recruitment threads don't get enough traffic to stay afloat in the games tab.

 

I get what you mean, but I honestly disagree~

Like uhn... Really, what killed both versions of AG was... Me?

No joke, really. I killed both games in a way... As in, in both cases I ended up due to a myriad of reasons as the last active staff member, and instead of recruiting more people, I tried carrying the game on my shoulders... Which didn't work, I got overworked and the game died.

Honestly, if I hadn't stopped managing them, I'm pretty sure the original AG would still be alive and kicking.


In a similar vein, the Tower of Reincarnation mostly died because Spear was busy and didn't quite get to develop the game much past the point of reaching level 10, so players kinda stopped playing after reaching that breaking point.

I can't say much about the original Dungeons Game, but AFAIK it failed due to a similar issue of Rumanshi never being an active GM and stuff.

So uhn... Really, the main thing that killed Roleplaying Games were inactive staff members, not its repositioning. Like, yeah, sure, the number of new applications did get hurt from its reposition from the original Community Games, but... It was a necessity, the Roleplaying Games were monopolizing the front page of the Games section, often times pushing very popular games like 21 dares and Males X Females to the 2nd page due to sheer volume of Roleplaying Threads... We just needed a new subforum.

And on the plus side, this also allowed Roleplaying Games to have as many threads as they wanted without worrying about cluttering the Community Games.

So... It wasn't an all pluses change, but it was a necessary change that had some benefits to it.

 

Yeah, dungeons died due to lack of content... There's only so many rats one can fight before they get tired of it -.- (As well as how long stuff took when in squad and fact that some ppl made dungeon just to kill you...)

Welp, active GMs are a problem, but some of the games had rather active person taking care of it and still failed. This subsection having almost no traffic is one of the main reasons in my opinion.

Also, yeah, this iteration was not made to be self-sufficient in any form So it kinda died off without new quests...

 

Well, I participated in a fair number of games in this subforum, and pretty much all of them died due to lack of staff... >.>

Maybe others that I didn't participate in died to different reasons, but... Well, I don't think the loss of possible players was the real issue~

 

I gues its time to make a game that doesn't need much GM-ing \o/
