    silently save it in favorites

Yeah, it was made clear that the only souls in her system before Van were the ones from her races, which is why Roddy and Altard could watch the memories of the original 3 races who live in Vidal before Van happened.

He can't, by doing so it would instigate undead discrimination and political backlash.

At best he can undead them by bringing the enemy corpses to Vidal Empire, turning them into ghost or incarnate 'em into demons/monters like Juliana. It would be bad for his public image in foreign contries to make undead before their eyes and may spread fear in Amid people enough for them lick Heinz ass and unite the country against Van.

As someone so eloquently put it at the time that chapter came out:

"Mother Goddesses can have children however the fuck they want"

EDIT: Though given that Diana (obligatory fuck calling her Deeana) is explicitly stated to not be a Mother Goddess I guess it should be "Fuck it, they are gods, deal with it":hmm:

Ok, read the chapter. Here’s my probably wrong interpretation of it.
So first off, a lot of gods and spirits want to leave Alda. They can see Van is going to win and want to make amends before they get fucked over. A problem, however, is that Alda is the god of law. Most of the spirits and gods have to make a vow before Alda to become a god or spirit so if they leave, they break the vow and get punished. They are also afraid of Alda’s pikes of law. It’s stupid to fear it since Alda would be dumb to use it. Alda takes direct damage when Van destroys them and Van can destroy them really easily. If anything, they should prove their loyalty to Van by getting piked so Alda will be hurt. Second, there is a god for every combat system, just as there are for elements. Seems everything has to be governed by some kind of god. The system fo magical girl is growing exponentially and a lot of the goddesses were forced to be responsible for it. Van is also a god of magical girls since he basically created them. In fact, he’s considered the highest level god of magical girls with Vida. Van acknowledges that it’s too late to slow that progress since Kanako is currently touring around the continent. Mei is training hard. Good job, Mei. And something ominous is happening in the labs. Our mad scientist is experimenting on prisoners, degrading and dehumanizing them, and now maniacally mentions that there are new human rights laws. They way he maniacally mentions it leads me to believe everything is only gonna be worse for them.

I think the job/status gods chose the person for this role long ago, given the correlation between Magical Girls and unmarried women of a certain peerage.

I would feel bad for the prisoners, but they likely had to be willing and eager to do worse in order to get there.

"It is said that the Great Demon God Vandalieu can fight against the whole pantheon of Lambda and win unscatched. But against a Magical Girl, a Magical Girl would just make him give up and accept he can't win this fight" - future historians over Van's current predicament as one of the Combat Gods of Magical Girls:blobrofl:

See Van? This is what happen when you do things on a whim, you create a godhood around it!:blobjoy:

I guess this leaves Kanako and Zadiris free to be Goddesses of Idols and Princesses respectively:blobhighfive:

Ch 373: "A Meeting in a Season of Meetings and Partings"

So remember a while back when Elk, Goddess of the Holy Spear, and a bunch of other gods who still had heroes in Orbaume, up and disappeared from Alda's side? Well, they've now made contact with Van with the intention of defecting. Van, who doesn't feel he has a reason to automatically consider all of these gods his enemies, considering the heroes they were initially training to fight Van and Vidal haven't actually attacked any Vidal citizens and are now working with Miriam, says that they're free to join without any additional strings attached. As Van puts it, Vida and the other high gods said he should treat anyone who wished to defect or surrender fairly... okay actually they said please don't eat the gods who are willing to surrender, but Van's going to go with this somewhat softer version of their request. :sweating_profusely:

Elk and the others are somewhat surprised by this, as they expected Vandalieu to place harsh conditions on them or even kill them. Van makes it clear that while they will have to earn both his and the Vida faction gods' trust and friendship with their actions from here on, nothing else will be required of them. Still, Elk thinks merely being friendly with the Vida faction gods will be largely meaningless (it would take millions or tens of millions of years of mere "moral support" to actually gain Vida and the others' true trust) and thus decides she has to do something concrete: She's going to make a covenant with Van by giving her holy symbol, her holy spear, to him. The other defectors follow, giving staffs, pens, a sacred cow, a rice seedling, and so on to Van.

Van, ever the [Self-proclaimed Human], then explains that he doesn't know what to do with all these things or how gods make a covenant (nor would he have any reason to, since he's not one. HE'S NOT A GOD! :blob_pout:), much to Elk's surprise. Peria, who is revealed to be the "negotiator" for this defection, then steps in to explain that in fact covenants are a power specific to Alda as a god of law. When gods swore oaths in front of him, he became able to perceive if said oaths were ever broken. As Van however is not a god of law (just a god of death and reincarnation?), he doesn't have these capabilities. So Elk says in that case, she'll be the guardian deity of magical girls! :blobsweat_2: Yes, much like Garess is the god of warriors, and Rishare is the god of hunting, Elk wants to take on a similar role for the magical girl job class. This would forcibly tie her to Vida's camp, both as a goddess who is empowering magical girls that only exist within the Vida camp, and is also dependent on magical girls who only exist in the Vida camp for the belief she needs for her own empowerment and survival. :blobhyperthink:

Van then explains that unfortunately this won't be easy. There are already quite a lot of gods considered patrons of magical girls. Vida, as her avatar Darcia is the most famous magical girl. Ricklent, as he is an amorphous existence without gender who rules over art and performance like the idol performances magical girls appear in. Peria as a goddess of magic that magical girls use. Botin as a goddess of smithing and crafts required to create their transformation trinkets. Merrebeveil and other gods who have granted divine protections to people who are well known magical girls. Deanna who became a magical girl herself recently. and so on. And of course Vandalieu is also in the mix as the creator of transformation equipment, though he's more "something like a fairy godmother" of magical girls. (thanks for that one Kanako. :blobmelt:) ...but none of them particularly want to become specialized in it (since it's embarrassing) and they didn't know how many thousands of years it would have taken to get a god of magical girls to naturally appear from the mortal population, so they'd be quite happy to recruit Elk to be their sacrifice do it instead!

This makes Elk freeze in astonishment, and causes the other defectors to say they'll take on this "burden" with Elk, as it seems magical girls are actually a much bigger authority than she thought if over half the high gods and numerous other deities are associated with the job class (and as they became massively popular in Vidal and Orbaume because of her concerts, once again, thanks Kanako). Again, taking on an authority or role that's too much for you can cause a god severe pain (recovering from major surgery kind of pain) or even personality changes. We need only look at Merrebeveil, who went from the [Evil God of Slime and Tentacles] to the [Guardian God of the Scylla] and underwent major physical changes, mental changes, and fell into a coma for thousands of years, to see what kinds of dangers changing to a completely different or bigger authority can have on a god.

As such, it's decided for the time being Elk will just become "the goddess of a transforming hero", and Hendricksen will be given some transformation equipment (though per Elk's request, not a frilly one). And depending on how that goes, they'll see about expanding her authority from there. Van also has discussions about various oracles Elk and company should be sending out, reforms in their temples, ways to avoid attacks against their believers, and the upgrading of their "hero candidates" to outright "heroes" who protected the world from Guduranis, before leaving Elk's domain to attend to another matter.

The other matter is apparently going to hang out with Mei, Bokor and Yukijorou... who are walking around on the ceiling in the underground areas of the castle in Talosheim... all in order to improve their no-attribute magic and mana control abilities. Bander meanwhile is serving as their spotter so they don't fall on their heads. :blobsmilehappyeyes: Ulrika, Hiroshi and Gabriel were doing it earlier too, but ended up overextending their mana pool and are now passed out. Except for Ulrika. She just used too little mana and fell... right when Van was heading to talk to Elk... which caused Bander to respond slightly slower... which made Ulrika think she was going to smash into the ground and pass out... only for Bander to still indeed catch her at the last second. Van hopes this doesn't cause Ulrika to develop a permanent fear of heights too. :blobsweat: In here, Van also thinks that Bander is the real solution to his desire to have "multiple main Vandalieus", and that instead of setting up multiple bodies, he should separate parts of his soul like he did to create Bander.

Meanwhile, in the lab nearby, Luciano is telling the experimental animals... excuse me, the "guinea pigs", that they've graduated from this role. He then hands one of them a stack of documents, on which the first page has "Human Rights" printed on it. :blobReach:

    Next chapters on June 10th.
