Registration | OOC Room | Free RP | Mission Board | Reports Brave New World is an RP based on the novel Lord of the Mysteries which plays in a Victorian-era world that has recently discovered a new continent named Rafasa that contains ways to gain supernatural powers. The players will be members of the Rafasa Liberation Movement (RLM), a “terrorist” organization on this new continent Rafasa that aims to establish a nation free of the influence of the large nations. In the game, players complete missions for the RLM, fighting against the large nations, other factions of the RLM, or supernatural monsters. Please do make sure to read the first posts of each thread before posting in them, as they'll explain how said thread is supposed to work. ------------------------------------------------------- The setting: With steam-based technology on the rise, the nations of the world have discovered a new continent called Rafasa far across the ocean. With unclaimed land available in this conflict-riddled world, all eyes turn towards this new continent. In a bid to gain control over it, each nation sends its naval forces out, establishing colonies along the coast and fighting various skirmishes on the sea and Rafasa’s coast. With no one being a clear winner but resources and space abundant, the colonization efforts increase and even those wishing to gain independence sneak towards this new world. The discovery of strange flora and fauna which, in certain combinations, can grant supernatural powers finally turns this colonization into a mad frenzy as all nations focus most of their attention on Rafasa. But this new power might break the frail balance between the colonies, and the distanced nations may not be able to remain in control. You are one of the people that has come to this continent in hopes of creating a new nation free from the tyrannic yoke of the old nations and have joined the Rafasa Liberation Movement in order to fulfill this dream. Once a person has drunk a potion, he is said to have become a Beyonder of that pathway. The characters can progress in power by consuming the next potion of the corresponding pathway once they have digested the previous one. A potion can be digested by acting according to certain rules hidden in the name of the potion. One can always act with the powers one has newly gained. Examples for already existing pathways are those used in the novel Lord of the Mysteries, which this RP is based on. Players are allowed to have their character be of any pathway that has complete information on the rituals and powers gained up to Sequence 4. One does not need to know the novel to play, however. Also, please keep in mind that the pathways, while starting at 9 and going down in LotM, start at 1 here and go up. Players can also create custom pathways and apply to have them in the game. This is an example of a custom pathway: Spoiler: Example Pathway Level 1: Rogue Abilities: Increased general physical prowess most notably in agility, dexterity, and flexibility. Instinct and perception sharpen. Awaken the power of Shadowflip, currently provide stealth in the dark. Acting: A mischievous knave, providing service at the grey area in the edge of law and morality. Is highly perceptive on human behavior. Level 2: Woodswraith Abilities: Same physical and mental boost. Gain the ability to imbue toxic properties onto weapons at hand. Acting: A rogue is bound to civilization. A woodswraith take a step further, able to survive - and even thrive - in untamed wilderness. Able to identify and raises edible and poisonous vegetations, brew herbal concoction, and creating makeshift tools from what's available. Level 3: Killer Abilities: Gain the power of Vertigo, to reverse the effect of gravity at will. Only affect self and anyone in direct touch. Shadowflip improve to allow clinging on vertical surfaces in the dark. Acting: The riskier the deal, the better the payout. Step into the unquestionably dark path of trading lives for coins, and for the thrill of the process. Gain knack for striking vital spots. Level 4: Assassin Abilities: Gain the power of Hardlight, creating transparent platforms anywhere within a short distance of the user. These platforms have fixed size and shape, and are brittle enough to be shattered with a strong blow. Acting: An assassin goes beyond a killer, slipping into the most airtight place to claim a life and leave unseen. Gain a sensitivity to split-second timing on when to strike. Level 5: Split Swordsman Abilities: Gain the power of Dart, enhancing one's footstep with short burst of speed as well as directional change without needing any tangible footing. A split swordsman have all the skill of an assassin that is polished for actual combat, weaving in and out unpredictably and finish the contract even after one is spotted by the target. Some people are just impossible to catch off-guard, after all. Acting: Beyond striking vitals, also foresee several sequential steps ahead in order to create and make use of openings instead of only waiting for one to present itself. Level 6: Spectre Abilities: Able to morph into a semi-intangible denizen of darkness. Shadowflip allows self and unresisting creatures to sink into any patch of darkness, as well as storing and controlling weapons inside. All of it gain a powerful toxic properties, and victims struck may be afflicted with Vertigo which lingered for a time even when contact is broken. In similar vein Dart may be applied to stored weapons, allowing them to suddenly accelerate and to some extent change trajectory. Hardlight may change properties from being blade-thin to turn into the jarringly visible and highly resilient Redshift barrier. Acting: To vanquish those beyond the mortal limit, one have to transcend the mortal limit. Continue the path by taking down demigods, by any means necessary. Gain a near-total perception of everything in significant radius especially if shrouded in shadows, and the capability to semi-autonomously control a large amount of stored armaments. With small, lean figure cultivated by years of malnourishment, she is quite incapable of attracting any attention, both wanted and unwanted, causing her to fade into the crowd unfortunately easily. That all is quite exacerbated by her choice of clothing. Dark colors with plenty of folds to hide in are her preferred choice. If there is a choice. Currently, she is robbed in dark brown cloak that has seen a fair bit of use. It is not dirty, but age marred it regardless. Spoiler: Powers Misty step In the morning mist, there lie many dangers for unsuspecting wanderers. In decreased visibility settings, one can become nearly invisible. This doesn't apply to darkness. In all settings, wanderer's steps carry her further than they should with greater distance, least visible she is. Spoiler: Skills Lying - Maya is middling liar. Under scrutiny, her act or lies get dismantled fairly easily, but most people never bother. Painting - Some level of skill is expected from workers painting the finished product. Maya has that but not much more. She is capable of producing low-value picture fairly quickly if painting tools are at hand. Spoiler: Backstory As an Orphan born in Skacia, Maya has seen the dark side of industrial revolution. Used as a painter in loom factory during her childhood, she haven't seen any of the money her labor should have brought her, only experiencing the suffering that work with unregulated colors inevitably brought. This lead to her developing many illnesses with each leaving one more mark on both her body and soul. After leaving the orphanage and gaining control of her fate, Maya realized she still had no control. Her leash just shifted from her custodian to whoever employed her at the moment, and with no skills other than painting, she was stuck doing the same accursed work again and again. It was then that she decided to be free. It took many years of saving whatever she made extra on top of what she needed to not die, to finaly have enough to travel to new land she heard so much over the years. New start? Just what she needed. And so, she is here, poorer than ever yet ready to be free.

Unfortunately, when she was only 10 years old her mother died in an accident, Hae-Eun had to scrape by on the streets while dealing with the turmoil inside of her heart. Fortunately, when she was almost 11 she was found by a merchant which came from another country called mister Strauss, he took Hae-Eun on his house as a servant and put her under the care and tutelage of his right hand, a man called Sarjey. In the Strauss household, Hae-Eun learned all kinds of skills from a maids duty till a bodyguard's skill under Sarjeys watch she learned how to deal with thugs, investigate, check out workers corruption and deal with all kind of underhanded and shade business a merchant had to deal with. When Hae-Eun was 19 years old the business rivals of mister Strauss started to attack him more directly, which lead him to assign Hae-Eun as a bodyguard for his wife and daughter, outside of Sarjey's watch Hae-Eun finally gained her autonomy and influence inside the household and it was dealing with some business for Miss Strauss that she discovered a surprising truth, It wasn't a coincidence that Mister Strauss had found her when her mother died, in fact, he had actively searched for her, because Hae-Eun was his bastard daughter. Without knowing if she should be glad that he took her in and helped her or if she should be angry that he let his mother struggle in poverty Hae-Eun continued to work in the Strauss household for two entire years before a big incident happened, the Elindian Official which used to have business with Mister Strauss used the merchant as a scapegoat for his corruption and criminal involvements which lead the Elindian government to declare the Strauss family as a spy from an enemy nation and execute the entire family. Since young, she was tutored in many subjects which are essential for a daughter of a rich merchant and possibly the future wife of a noble, from etiquette classes to academic classes like geography, administration and politics, and even art. Alas, the unpredictable course of history didn't permit this small girl to enjoy this life for long when she was only nine years old catastrophe fell upon the Strauss House, her father declared as a spy, and her family condemned to death without even a trial. With the help of some loyal servants, she fled through a secret passage underneath the old manor. On the following years, Annabelle's life was hard and filled with peril, the initial group of servants slowly diminished as not only the searching intensified a bounty for their head was announced, with time the loyalty withered and some left other even tried to sell her out, fortunately, she had her trustful bodyguard miss Hae-Eun to protect her. Along these six years as a fugitive, Annabelle thought of giving up many times but how could she not notice the determination, the devotion, and even a hint of desperation on Hae-Eun's face when she looks at her, while Annabelle can't call herself as a genius she was always a bright girl often showing intelligence beyond her years, so while she doesn't know why she makes that face, Annabelle can clearly see that there is something more than simply loyalty hidden deep inside the woman who has protected her, and in turn this fact steeled her resolve to not only live but thrive and find peace for herself and for the only person she has in this world.

It took him nearly 20 years, but he finally made his way to the new world in hopes of changing not only his fate, but the lives of the people he left back in Iha. It was only after coming to Rafasa that Cooper found out just how oppressed they truly were. An unassuming stranger brought him to the Rafasa Liberation Movement and gave him a chance to truly help. The only thing out of the ordinary about him would be that Charles was a bit emotionless, due to that he was isolated from most of his peers. But sadly, his parents passed away due to a carriage accident. Now with nothing left to lose he closed down his mother’s tailor shop sold all his inheritance and go on to this new world he keeps hearing about.

Keep in mind that the large nations see any Beyonder that is not directly part of their forces as a threat. This might serve as a motivation for your character.

The fact she will be sold against her will regardless whether she has gained a reputation, made her feel angry, betrayed, and humiliated. Even though she was only missing a few years to earn her freedom, yet at this moment, she will be sold to an unknown fate. Unwilling to give in, Anija decided enough was enough and escaped the day before she will be sold out. With everything of value she managed to gather over the years, she traveled a long distance towards her childhood home. What she didn't expect was how the rich merchant will start a huge searching operation for her, one on a scale simply too big to be worth her value. It wasn't until she had found her parent's home that she came to know why. As it turns out, her father was the same rich merchant who brought her that day. In order to find Anija, her father worked hard to widen his connection in order to find lead back to her, as a result, he became much more successful compared to before. Her mother instead remained nearby theirs home most of the time, she found out to be pregnant shortly after Anija's disappearance, but she also stayed near their house in case, her daughter was to return by herself. In the end, by the irony of fate Anija reunited with the same man she worked so hard to escape from, that man also happened to be her very own father... In the coming year, Anija did her best to catch up with her family, but it didn't take long for her to realize that trading wasn't something she was interested in anymore. From the very beginning, because of her mixed origin, Anija never felt connected to either country her parents came from. After the kidnapping accident, she felt that disconnection even stronger as she never could stay in one place for long. Anija knows she couldn't continue the peaceful life of a merchant unlike her younger days, but she was also unwilling to go back to be a simple dancer.
