Request Have you seen a series in Chinese maybe with English subtitles or without that you would recommend?

What the title says. I thought, if it was interesting, I could enjoy watching it while learning some Chinese. I speak Cantonese at home, but I'm not living in China and my Chinese is bad, but I was bored and I thought it would be fun

the only CN series i've watched is Oh My General and i quite enjoyed that. Granted, i've only ever gotten about 10 or 15 eps in before being distracted by something else.

 

It always sounds like romance, but it was what I expected. Thanks fellows!

 

I have watched a lot... And many different genres... Maybe you could specify your preference?
Try to swim around youtube. There're plentiful(?) official CN channels that uploaded their series there. Maybe start with WeTV. They have both dramas, animations, and TV shows too.

I will try all your suggestions. At first I tried to search youtube on my own, but didn't like the results. It all looked like romance and with cringy bad quality. But when I read your guys recommendations, I am more willing to try it out than randomly choosing something, which might be really bad in the end. At first I had something in mind which isn't romance. Like maybe some adventuring or drama or slice of life. But thinking about it most things do have romance

Thats the name of the novel - the series is Untamed which is censored

 

For sure third rate romances are everywhere, like around 8/10 dramas you'll found. The other two are non-romance and quality romance...
Some famous list to introduce :
- Love O2O (Your Smile is Very Alluring) : Movie and drama. Romance between two gamers.
- Gank Your Heart : Romance drama. The ML is a gamer.
- Go Go Squids : Another romance drama with a gamer ML.
- Put your head on my shoulder : Romance cohabitation drama. A happy ending one.
- Untamed (Mo Dao Zu Shi) : BL cultivation(?) drama. Nah censored...
- The Kings Avatar : Drama and animation. Too famous for more comment.
- Guardian : Supernatural(?) drama. From BL novel but the adaptation cut it to just bromance.
- A Love So Beautiful : School romcom. Pretty famous and one of the OST bombed.
- Love Me If You Dare : Mystery psychological drama. Oh there's romance in it too. The ML is psychologist.
- Memory Lost : Another mystery psychological drama with romance. Crime detective.
- When A Snail Falls in Love : Similar to above two.
- S.C.I : Crime mystery drama. Another one from BL novel but censored...

Annddd those are few that I had some impression. Most adapted from a novel. Ah, most are in modern setting because that's my preferences.

 

If you don't like romance, you can try some TV comedy such as Xiaolan Ji -mouth of steel and Secret intelligence station. But I am not sure whether they have English subtitles.

• Growling Tiger Roaring Dragon (the advisor Alliance sequel)
• Joy of Life
• legend of chusen (other name: Zhu Xian or Qing Yun Zhu)
• Novoland Eagle Flag
• Evernight season 1(not really recommend 2, season 1 is better)

 

I'm not sure if it's on YouTube but Growing Up 長大 was a good medical drama. Sort of like a Chinese Grey's anatomy where you follow a group of surgical interns from various backgrounds. There's romance but focus on other things too: friendship, family bonds, some social commentary ~

 

10/10 for both nirvana in fires!!

 

It's still not confirmed but there's rumor Nirvana in fire 3 script was done.

 

It's been a long time since I last watched a show on Youku but I think that subtitles were always toggled on there.

Most shows are pretty boring tho. I can personally only recommend you the movie The Wandering Earth.
