I've been playing DQ XI and omg it's sooo goood.

Graphics: Every frame is a painting. It doesn't look particularly realistic, and it doesn't have that much style or atmosphere like the persona games, but the lighting man - everything has a glow to it, even if it's not literally glowing. Like I can't even properly explain it. But I was walking in and out of this house, and when I was inside it, the warm orangish red glow of the fire illuminated my character and the dark wood interior, but then when I walked outside, the cool blue of the night arrested me as it shined on the tall grass and my character. I just kept walking in and out for a couple seconds, struck by the contrast and brilliance of the scenes, thinking, it's so beautiful. I'm so glad I got the game before the S version.

Exploration: I cannot stress enough how much I love the exploration, like, yeah, I know the game designers expect me to scour the perimeter of the overworld and turn upside down all the rooms in every city, but is that going to stop me? No! It feels sooo rewarding, collecting every item, figuring out how to get up somewhere, talking to the NPCs and reading the books for lore and recipes. Like I actively want to participate in the game. So many games feel so empty.

Combat: Turn-based combat. I hated it, or I thought I hated it. Like, gross, it's so slow, just let me slash stuff. Don't make me wait through the same animation a billion times. It's not that the gameplay was repetitive or never changed, the skill trees and boss's make sure of that. But what I hated so much was how slow it was, how I would have to watch the same long animation every time, for every character. I love emulators so much, I don't think they do nearly as much for action games as turn-based ones, but that turbo mode, it has to cut off hours of game time when you think about the amount of encounters per dungeon and how long boss fights can be, especially when playing a 50+ hour games. I'm so glad I looked up a speed up option.

Skill tree: I'm not as interested in the parts of the character trees that are for weapons, but the unique branches for each character. It's so fun to see what each of them brings to the table, aoe healing every turn? That's OP. Stealing items from monsters? That's OP.

Story: It shows the beauty and tragedy in fantasy. Whereas I think (though I haven't played) Yakuza shows the beauty and tragedy in reality. Like, the thing I hated about P5 was how it was trying so hard to show you how sucky a person/people can be. Like I don't care. That's just not an interesting story. P4 is def more interesting because it's about the doubts within them rather than the doubts other people have about the main cast. The doubts within are so much more relatable and real than the doubts without.

And the animation in the cutscenes, chef's kiss.

Characters: I kind of just discovered the party talk function and am definitely going to use it more - gotta bond with my mates.

Guys, I would love to hear about other awesome JRPGs. My next game is probably definitely going to be Yakuza: Like a Dragon if I can find a speed hack, which I'm pretty sure there is.

I've been playing Golden Sun and it's sequel for the last few weeks on my days off and I can nothing but recomend those games.

Well, they are kinda old, being for the GB Advance, same as me I guess lol. But for the time being at least I work w/o the use of an emulator or other such things :D

I’ve also been playing DQ XI. Well worth the 40$ I spent.

I was going to say this but I totally forgot to do it.

    Dragon Quest journal entry #1
Okay, so there was this quest where you had to get this item from the in-game casino. And once I realized/read that, I was like - I wasn't panicked per se, but I was definitely preemptively frustrated. Like to finish this quest, I have to gamble away my hard-earned gold.

And then when I was at the trade-in desk to turn my gold into chips - I needed 500 chips for the quest item. I only had 2,600 gold. Each chip had a cost of 20 gold, so I would need a total of 10k gold to buy all the chips, so buying the chips/the easy way out was not an option for me.

I probably blew away 20 minutes trying out the slot machine and poker, losing all my gold. Thank god for the quicksave. It may be scummy, but I totally savescummed.

So at that point, I was frustrated. But inwardly, I knew I had no right to win big because I took no effort to learn the inner mechanics of the casino's minigames, so what did I do? I looked up a cheat sheet for poker, because I've basically never played it before/don't know the rules, and then I won big, owning 1000 chips by the end of a 20 minute period.

So yeah, I was pretty jazzed by that point. And I kind of wanted to waste a couple hours, getting the higher rewards from the casino, but their stats weren't that great compared to the cost. Too bad you couldn't turn chips into gold. But it probably would've broken the game's economy.

By the end, I was glad they added that little quest and that little casino minigame.

Golden sun is a great game. The sequel is way too easy though

I am still trying to figure out what I am suppose to do, I would honestly appreciate a tutorial or where should I go.
And I may or may not have willingly lost to monsters once in a while.

If Devil Survivor counts, I really really recommend it.

Other than that I am planning to play Trails to Zero and trials to Azure soon consdiering Geofront has completely translated both. I would suggest giving trails series a try, trails in the sky fc is a personal favourite of mine.

Yo, I tried so hard to play in the sky and to Zero, but the load times in to Zero after every battle was a solid five seconds, and in in the sky, I just started panning right and never stopped. I'mma try emulation on psp next. Fan translations are so sick.

But I completed the first arc of cold steel and was insanely underwhelmed. It was basically entirely world building. And I kind of hate the tactics element of the gameplay, where you can move the characters around. Like regular combat already takes so long, and now you want to add movement and the complications of distance into the equation? It's insane. But I definitely want to try out tactics games like trails and disgaea more.

But the simple combats of DQ and Persona are definitely for me right now.

Positioning matters, especially with skills that have a fixed area effect. Hell, in Sky 1 I managed to clear a boss battle on impossible simply by standing in the corner of the room and the 2 big bosses got in each other's way. In CS3, I even managed to kite Barias to death. Positioning and movement matters and opens up a lot more options for gameplay, even if it is as simple as simply walking out of an enemy skill range.

The main goal is to vanquish all boss in each area and save some sacrificed girls. The mission need to be triggered in the church, so that's your first goal.
What you need to do to reach a location is by using doors with the same description a few times until it changes into "enter ____" after around 3 to 5 doors iirc.
Each labyrinth is connected to 3 different location with 1 door lead to the sacrifice if it's been activated. One labyrinth can only contain 1 sacrifice and wont spawn again if it's been saved.

It can be wrong as i kinda forgot how to trigger the missions. I already finished it and currently trying to unlock every skin available by doing "certain things"

Hm no idea about Zero's load times. 5 seconds after every battle is too much though.
Sky FC on PSP runs buttery smooth. I havent played the PC version so dunno
As for Cold Steel 1, well yeah. Trails is structured as a gigantic arc containing sub arcs of Sky and Cold Steel. The series is really heavy on world building and kind of expects you to attempt to go through as many side quests as you can and interact with npcs after anything important happens. Cold steel is basically one story cut in 4 pieces, it is not more of "sequel" but just "story is too long for one game so we are gonna cut it into 4" - which puts Cold Steel 1 as essentially the intro for the arc.

Yooo, totally, that's why when I do try out the series, I'm going to start with to zero and from azure/the crossbell arc since it's essentially the shortest of the three. And I think those bugs were just specifically bad luck on my end.

But there are so many MegaTen, FF, DQ, and ps1 and psp games to go through beforehand. Truly a treasure trove.

I just wish CS3 wasn't the "Continued adventures of Rean who somehow as a teacher still seems to act like a student" or "Everything female on two legs wants to have his babies". That is simply bad writing.

I am currently playing Nioh 2. I think Team Ninja has really outdone themselves this time. The maps are larger than before. There's usually at least a few alternate routes per map. There's four new weapons, the skill tree is better, Yokai shift doesn't disrupt the balance of combat like living weapons, and the addition of Yokai skills makes the combat even more fluid.
