I'm not really worried about the font of the text, unless it's one of these fonts that is very artistic or very curvy that all the letters run together.
My biggest problem would be the colours between the font and background.

I don't have problems with any font.
Reason- my handwriting looks likes some cryptic font.

    on computer?

    - Script . . . ugh, that handwriting style is hard to read for me.
although I will read them regardless if I like the book/WN/LN.
it's just bad for my eyes and take more brain power to process.

    - serif with excessive curls and ornament.

    - moon language type of font where you can't tell what form of alphabet it is suppose to be.

    - I am indifferent to comic sans, they are rather tame compared to the above.

I think sans serif is easier to read when online. Like the above poster, I find script fonts, like... completely unreadable.

The color schemes are what would really turn me off from a website though. Thankfully, I found this Firefox addon, Blank your Monitor. It makes the background black, readable text white, and links green... very easy to look at.

The problem I've encountered myself as well as my readers tend to be contrast and font size rather than the font style (aside from the time I used Lobster 2, but that was intention to convey the scripture style in the original that was meant to be barely legible).

I spent a rather long time to make a scheme that works for people with certain eye conditions, namely colourblind. Who knew facebook had the right colour scheme idea all along.

The first problem is if the contrast between font and BG is not enough.
Second when the background is pure white, it puts a lot of strain on the eye. Black font with a slightly light gray BG are better than black on white. The one I like most though is white/greyish font with black or dark background.

Yes, different fonts have different designs for different purposes. For example, serif fonts such as Times and Georgia are in general more readable than sans-serif fonts (like Arial). Usability studies have shown that serif fonts can be read more easily.

Huh interesting. I’m using Delius on my site because the playful air of the font matches the mood of the novel I’m translating.

I also switch fonts every month on GoogleDocs for my translated chapter archives. For me, it keeps things interesting and fresh, and I’m not affected by the styles I choose.

What's worse is when they use distinct colors just to kill my eyes.

I can see why people will say that the font doesn't matter, but they're wrong. Having the wrong kind of font (and font size) makes a huge difference in reading speed and comprehension. It may not be readily apparent to the reader, but the effect can be consistently identified in experimental circumstances. And it makes a lot of logical sense as well: if your brain has to fight to figure out what the text is, it's going to be that much more work to figure out what that text means.

More than Font style, The font size bothers me and sometimes you can't even change it. But Font style too if it starts being squiggly or curvy or comic sans - I drop the novel.

Same for the font size. Im not very comfortable with small fonts and it irritates me when you cant change it.

I've seen many people complain about comic sans: is it really that bad?

I'm actually fine with anything as long as it is legible/read- able. But if a site allows you to manipulate the fonts used, then I most likely will indulge in changing the font, because well, style :blobrofl:
