Hm? No. I've never had read either book. But, I think that I've saw a fan fiction of Harry Potter / parody that was published. I've skimmed it when I was in a library long ago. I also think that there was a writer that was ok with that, he especially wanted that to happen, his work to be used as a basis for other 'universes'.

You really didn't get how it worked from Dumbledore second letter to Harry? Yes, Snape did screw up with Lily in school, but he would have get over it much, much earlier in his life if Dumbledore didn't have to use him to make the prophecy self-realize and Voldemort getting wrecked at GH.

After that, Dumbledore made sure no one said to Snape what he needed to hear: "it's creepy and pathetic, get on with your life, be happy." When Harry accidently does that, we can see the change in Snape along the story with the slytherin girl who likes him, him helping Hermione and the SPHEW girls, etc.
