    Hello!

I made this thread because recently I've started a few board games in the Community Games forum (Five-in-a-Row and Chess), but I don't want to make any more unless I'm sure that there's a population here on NUF that would be interested in playing.

Personally, I'm a Go (weiqi) player, but I know that this boardgame isn't as well known, and I'm not sure if people would be interested if I made a thread for it (even though it's really easy to). And I don't want to be obnoxiously starting new board game threads for every game I can think of if there's nobody who's going to play them.... orz

So the object of this discussion is:

What board games do you like to play?
What board games (or card games) do you think you'd play if it existed on NUF?

Even if you can't envision there being a way to bring a certain game to the forums, I also happen to be a programmer who can write a bot if necessary (and @Tony recently added a !roll command), which greatly expands the type of games that can be played on NUF.

So feel free to go all out!

If you don't see a game on the poll that you'd be interested in, please reply! Suggestions welcome!

Any of them can, in one way or another, be turned into a drinking game. They are all good to me.

There's a group of people playing it already in the Community Games subforum!

And a couple spin-off games as well that use similar amounts of deceit!

    Added!

eh, games via forum though just take too long :p you can't get more efficient than a programmed game that lets you burn through a few games in a few hours

I once tried to make it for phones. Super failed though, mostly because of the question of setting up a server.

I really loved Monopoly as a kid. I don't think I would play it but it'll be cool to watch other people play.

Why not? You can't succeed unless you fail a few times first.

Apparently games that involves backstabbing and lying is popular on NUF (y)

I would probably say Monopoly if I knew how to properly play it...so instead, let's go for the Game of Life!

Oh... I misread the thread before voting. I thought we were petitioning @Tony to make these into games with Justabot so we can play them without much setup.

Works still, keeping votes the same

snakes and ladders brings up nostalgia. used to play it as a child with the family.

though if you're thinking of putting it on NUF then my vote is for monopoly.

It's certainly possible~ @Tony mentioned before that if I (or others) were willing to write a plugin using Xenforo, he would support it, but it's also a question of how much effort I (or anyone else) would be willing to put into programming a complex game into @justabot. ^___^

Simple games like checkers or connect four are definitely the easiest though, because they require no programming and they're super easy to set up.

I had no idea that Monopoly was so popular though. XD Since it is so popular, I wouldn't mind considering writing code to draw the cards from the Community Chest deck or Chance decks because that in itself isn't too hard.

For those of you who voted for Monopoly, how would you feel if it was a modified Monopoly game (with different rules/gameplay so it's easier to play in a massive group of Nuffians)? Or would you rather it stay like the original 4 player game where all the players have to take their turn in order?

When you have a big community playing, smaller board games will be better. I am all in for tic tac to..As for the chess and all,I am unable to take part in them because I didn't get the code to play the game. Not much of a tech guy~~

the problem i can see with this is that its probably extremely hard to format and to keep in check, because a lot of the games you mentioned involve turns or else they wouldn't actually function

I don't think programming a Monopoly game for a forum would be worth it. Users might get interested for a bit in the beginning but I feel like they would stop after awhile. I don't think it's worth it to program something like that for a forum.

I think simple is the best when it comes to programmed forum games.

Yep! You're right! This is partially why the Chess and Five-in-a-Row Community Games threads are kind of meant to be not-so-serious "water cooler"-type casual threads, and their real purpose is to connect people who want to privately play 1v1 over PM through the poll.

The simpler games definitely have an advantage, and I honestly haven't thought at all about how something like Monopoly would work on NUF, but I definitely hear you! It's hard!

It's nice to know where the demand for games is though!
