I was reading Death March and came across this prechapter intro, and totally agreed: "Satou's here. There are a lot of stories with revenge as their themes, but few of them end in happy endings due to the themes of the stories. I'll pay you back 10 times! The characters shout out their exasperation like so, but I wish they don't brood over it so gravely." Why must all my favorite novels (mostly xianxia ) degrade into getting revenge, getting revenge, killing that dude because be stopped you from killing your revenge targets uncle or some shit, and more revenge ;_____; *cough cough* ATG looking at you <_<
Welp.. MCs need motivation. Something to fuel their engine to fire them up so that they can work hard towards that goal. Revenge just seems to be the easiet fuel and one of the most effective. Overusing them would have a negative effect though..
I think unless the villain or enemy is causing future trouble just drop revenge and ignore no need to go find more trouble. So they screwed ya over? its better to just ignore it unless they really are still trying to cause trouble. There are always exceptions though but still I rather the MC just stop with pointless revenge at least.
life aint perfect..theres bound to be hate and revenge especially in ancient times and strong rules type worlds
Anything written good is good to me. As long as the revenge isn't some overly forced convoluted crap, I'll be fine with it~
I'm for good revenge, and not "Oh My God, he stepped on my shoes. I will remember this disrespect and take revenge, and when my revenge comes to fruition i will have killed you and all of your ancestors!." I hate those kind of revenge plots. Sad thing is that these type of revenge plots happen at least 75% of thr times when reading Xianxia and Xuanhuan.
Revenge can take a story a long way or even the entire way, like coiling dragon. It's an easy way to push the story forward. But once the revenge is over, the author needs something else to keep the story going or it'll just be lost or kill kill kill like tdg(lost) and maybe mga (kill to continue the story).
revenge is fine. If it's the sole purpose of the novel...not so much. Revenge is a great motivator, but it simply cannot sustain for a long period of time. Either the MC achieves it, and the story no longer has a drive or the author keeps stretching it out, ultimately ruining the story.
yep. Like epic tale of the forsaken hero / suterareta yuusha no eiyuutan.. it was so good when the mc is bent on revenge.. once its over, only harem and mediocre plot left on that story.. =/
The Count of Monte Cristo is over 1k pages of revenge and its one of my all time favorite books. But it's the exception to the rule. And he is smart revenge not dumb like most xianxia
Peace is a lie, there is only revenge. Through revenge, I gain strength. Through strength, I gain power. Through power, I gain victory. Through victory, my chains are broken. The Dao shall free me.
You dare speak ill of the hunt for revenge? Fool, when I find you I will claim vengeance for revenge itself!
my comment was more towards novels that try to continue on after getting revenge. if the novel stopped after revenge, it's fine. Keep going and you're beating a dead horse.
