Discussion long translated series is generally bad?

There are some good long and tedious novel to translate and there are bad one

The good one made me feel good and a sense of 'okay thank god someone translate this thing'

The bad one just made me wonder...why the hell did they waste time on this shit rather than other unpolished gem?.
Okay i know that when they first started translating the novel is generally starting out young or something...but it also made me feel absolute regret that they started this novel rather than some good one

i don't know but this just made me uncomfortable for the entire night thinking about this yesterday.

i found out some translator make like 5500$ per month at patreon, that's more than i make a year! and that is just translating rather than doing some math or some other shit

One of the most regretful translator that i want to just slap them in the face is the translator of 7 heavenly thunder manual, it's shit! i'll say it again this series is shit! stop translating this trash!

And if i try to translate a novel i'll read it through to the end first rather than okay this novel is barely starting i'll start translating, like translate other novel or help translate it first then translate the one you want to translate.

It's just a random rant of a random person, if you're not interested then go away.

Hmm. Some translator are only translating for hobbies or for fun that's why they are reading it while translating it. And some, why they are continuinh translating it even tho it's a trash is maybe because of the donations?

 

Tranlators translate what they like, not what you say they should, certainly I also don't like PMG, but the people that do are happy for the translations.
In short you can't really judge why people translate the novels they do

 

Im agree with you for the most part.. but dont look down on translators...its not easy to translate....especially with languages like japanese, korean and chinese they're written language is quite complex... just learning this shit takes years.....

 

Maybe their taste is different?

 

Like anyone could finish reading til the end of "Bringing the Farm to Live in another world", it has over 6600 chapters.

Just imagine the amount of information you can extract from someone by forcing them to read it. By chapter 20, they'll tell you anything just for it to end.

By chapter 40, their brain will leak out their ears!

Ok. Lets get something straight. Translators are not doing this ONLY for money. Maybe a few. But they never started out as professionals. They saw something which they felt was good,and then they got to it. They felt lonely while reading,and wanted to see what others felt.So,TL and get others to see the stuff!!
Now,many translators earn for their hard work.I have worked as a translator(not CN,an Indian language) but let me tell you..That sh*t ain't easy.
It is no less difficult than doing math. Just thin..millions of words to remember,to choose from..And these millions of words are from different languages!!

 

$5,500 is more than you make in a year? Do you live in Cuba? That's just 66k/year, which is a pretty normal salary in the US.

 

Well there are reasons. I am not translating but here is my random thought.
1 You read few chapters ok it is not bad let s translate it.
2 The further it goes the worse it is... but people actually like it and give donations. How to stop then.
3 Wasting all that on new novel... that might also be crap even worse too... most would not find it worthy.
4 You can just quit translating problem solved.

This novel might be bad to you, but to others it's awesome( Except Sword art online, that's trash)

7 heavenly thunder manual may be average but it isn't shit. I've read the entire thing before. At any rate, I don't think you've the right to tell translators what they can or cannot translate.

 

I'm going to ignore the OP and reply to the title because... Well, I'd rather not reply to the OP, as simple as that.

Long series, specially if they come from Qidian, probably have tons of filler chapters because the author is paid per chapter (and word count!), so you can expect them getting bad after a while.

Smaller stories usually don't have this problem, but that doesn't mean the long ones are bad.

 

Can't agree you with those novels being shit ( i dropped them but would still consider them as average or so)

 

The longer the series, the more tropes you see over and over again...I like chaotic sword god but damn if I can't tell when it repeats itself with new characters

 

A lot of novels are cut in different arcs, but the arcs sort of repeat themselves. After over a thousand chapters, what else can you write about. I'd read a shorter overall novel with high quality story over a long thousands of chapters which repeat... BUT I still enjoy them nonetheless because it's all about the journey and the miraculous power ups.
