A new approach that a translator is taking and it is paying off big time.

    http://www.novelupdates.com/series/the-empyrean-overlord/

    Prologue: Regular
    Chapter 1: Regular
    Chapter 2 Regular (March 8)
    Chapter 3: Regular (March 9)
    Chapter 4: Sponsor ($20)
    Chapter 5: Sponsor ($20)
    Chapter 6: Sponsor ($20)
    Chapter 7: Sponsor ($20)
    Chapter 8: Sponsor ($20)
    Chapter 9: Sponsor ($20)
    Chapter 10: Sponsor ($20)
    Chapter 11: Sponsor ($20)
    Chapter 12: Sponsor ($20)
    Chapter 13: Sponsor ($20)
    Chapter 14: Regular (March 14)

With 6 Sponsor Chapters in Queue.

Anyone know how many Regular Chapter per week? (according to another poster, it's 2 Regular Chapters per week)

Anyhow, with $20 per a sponsor chapter, it makes readers more willing to donate since it seems like a bargain. Their $20 seems to worth a lot more. That is why more readers are willing to support this translator with this new experiment.

I'm pretty excited about the $20 per chapter too. Hopefully there will be a huge influx of sponsored chapters because of this.

I don't think so because $20 is still expensive for me for single chapter.

Most novels are ~$50 (give or take $10) from what I've seen.
You don't have to pay all of it obviously, but smaller contributions will result in more chapters in comparison to most sites.

I mean, if the translator can keep up with the pace and not be overwhelmed, that's good

his pace should be fine considering the raws are quite small at only like 50 chapters which saddens me cause this story is amazing and the tl is great quality. i wanna see a lot more of empearyn overlord but sadly this pace can't be kept up for too long till we catch up.

How often does the author release? TMW seems to be doing fine even though we catch up daily.

the original reason the price was high was because RWX started with a no-donation policy, and to balance work with the high load of so many donations and creating a back up of 100+ chapters which would take him months to clear seemed unreasonable to readers and the translator. the point before this whole "translator = job" craze was that the content would always be firstly fan-based, and only secondly (if ever) for the money.

I still think Chinese chapters for most series are a bit too repetitive and wordy for money at all... I mean, with 80 dollars I could buy a new mainstream game, with 50 dollars I could buy a mainstream game, and with 20 dollars I could buy a new indie game that would last me for hours and hours.

Instead, that same amount of money for a chapter that I read in 2 minutes, and where almost nothing happens?

hes translating directly from a book, there is no online source according to him, so the 50~ chapters is probably all of it

translating is expensive, what do you expect, average RL translators (like the ones that translate JP LNs to english for example) get paid WELL over 100 an hour, and most CN chapters take 2-4 hours to TL, so its technically a bargain

You can say whatever you want about the cost to produce things, but unless it changes the amount of utility I get, it's not a bargain at all.

It would be like saying that it takes a lot of effort to dig up a clump of dirt from 8 feet down, so I should be feeling glad to pay three hundred dollars for it. But that makes no sense. Because if I had three hundred dollars, I could just get a new phone instead of a clump of dirt.

Hyperbole used here, but the exact same logic.

    Depends on where you live
20 is not much if you are from america and Europe but someone in China and india can support themselves
Singapore has the highest number of translators (not surprising since most speak both English and Chinese) but unfortunately its expensive there
